Anyone using this in 45 COLT ? Any info on pressure curves with 2f and 3 f available to look at.

My experience is a bit limited, but I did load 50 up awhile back of 3F. Loaded just like BP with a little compression with 250g RNFP. Shot 25 rounds, all went bang and accuracy seemed okay. Lots of smoke. What I liked is I can use standard bullets with it instead of using special lube. Cleanup was easy with soap and water.

I don't see a lot of difference between 2 and 3 F. A full 45 case is a stouter load than Goex. Has a sharper recoil.
Goex will work with out special BP lube in pistols. I do it all the time with no problems in CAS. Never tried it in rifles because I use 777 in them.

Hodgdons says not to use 3F in cartridges I was wondering why ? Could it cause a pressure spike? I know some who have used it with no signs of pressure increase and some who mix a 50-50 of 2f and 3 f.
I wanted to know if anyone has heard of or experienced any issues with using 3F in a cartridge.
It would make one dandy hunting load in my 45.

3F worked fine in my Vaquero. As for compression, I probably misspoke above on how I loaded it. Thanks Jim for the correction. It's been months since I loaded the powder, and I did read up on it at the time before loading it. It was at that time I read the Hodgdons 3F note too... But already had bought the powder. I loaded it up anyway as I had a Ruger after all.... Kick wasn't that bad (sharper than the TB loads, but not any worse than the Unique Loads), so felt I wasn't pushing anything. Now I have a Chronograph and still have 25 rounds left, so see what velocities I am getting next time I get the gumption to shoot the smoky loads .... Seems I'd rather shoot smokeless powder .

Today at the CAS match I just wanted to play around. So I shot 250gr with 35-38 grs of 3F Goex. That is about all you can get in a MODERN Colt case. Now that is about as close to a real 45 Colt load as you can get.
Now don't all you Guys tell me about shooting 500gr bullets at 50,000FPS because I don't care. This is a 45 Colt load. It is a really stout load soooooooo don't believe all ya see in the movies or TV. Well maybe those guys could shoot one handed better than me
I DO REAL GOOD AT IT.Bottom line , fill up the case with whatever put a bullet in it and go shoot the damn thing. This isn't rocket sicence, it's the OLD WEST :wink:

Ok, shot the other 25 smoky rounds loaded with triple-7 FFF. And got to Chrono the load today. Vaquero 5 1/2" barrel.
Triple-7 Volume 2.2cc (Lee Dipper), CCI-300 primer, and 250g RNFP 944 avg, 24 std dev (16 shots)
Seems to be plenty accurate, but boy does it dirty up a revolver after only 25 rounds! I do like the experience of not seeing the target immediately after ignition. Just a cloud of smoke 8) . No leading.
