TRILOGIES

In days of olde it used to be a double feature at a movie theater, but then if a connected double feature did well at the box office the greedy producers/directors /actors too decided if two is good why not three and some features have had even more (Tremors, at last count 7). In two different genres, the best current trilogies are the Godfather and Clint Eastwood in Good, Bad & Ugly. I would like to suggest/recommend a few for you, maybe not as good, but certainly watchable. I don't remember in what order they may be in and they may not be true trilogies, but just several movies that I enjoy watching for the day when there is no sports to watch.
Eddie & the Cruisers, Eddie... II and the Warriors. The last not being part of a true trilogy and one could replace it with Streets of Fire
Lou Gossett in Iron Eagle (actually in all four)
Crocodile Dundee, ...in Los Angeles and Almost an Angel. The last an whimsical/amusing movie.
So, what are some of your faves for trilogies or more?

When I here Trilogy my first thought is The Lord of The Rings.

I’m not a fantasy fan, but The Lord of The Rings is epic.

Tolkien was quite a writer. Some of the graphic accounts in the books were from his service during WW1.

When you say double feature. I thought that was just two movies back to back in the theater. But for movies that have three sequels, there are quite a few.

Eddie Murphy, Beverly Hills Cop? Or Indiana Jones? Or John Wick?

My wife and I love to sit down and watch a good movie. The other day we watched The Thomas Crown Affair.

What a great movie. No special effects, just good acting and good dialogue.

If a movie is has good dialogue and acting, it can stand alone, it doesn’t need special effects and CGI.

I don't understand the reference to The Good, The Bad, & the Ugly starting a trilogy.... but it did I suppose... I still tell people Henry Fonda played one of the most evil characters ever in a movie in Once Upon a Time in the West.

How about the 5 Dirty Harry movies? None of them are as good as the first one, but they all are better than the crap they put out these days! Same with the 5 Death Wish movies.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly was the third movie. The man with no name trilogy is

A Fistful of Dollars: (1964)
For a Few Dollars More: (1965)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: (1966)

Problem is, Hollywood turned trilogies into "franchises" and now you have endless variations on the same theme.

It seems to me that you only get one good sequel to a hit film, and then they need to find something else to do. See: Alien/Aliens; Die Hard / Die Hard 3 (parts Two, Four and Five were crap); the first two Terminator movies; the first two Lethal Weapons; Mad Max/Road Warrior; etc.

The only exceptions IMO are The Lord Of The Rings (which was a literary trilogy to begin with), the original Star Wars trilogy, and the John Wick movies. The prequel and sequel SW films were also crap (except for Rogue One) and as for John Wick . . . by the fourth film even Keanu Reeves' turbo murder was starting to get boring. And supposedly there's a fifth John Wick movie in the works . . .

Others have mentioned The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I would also mention C.S. Lewis's The Narnia Chronicles. I am somewhat partial to C.S. Lewis because while I didn't read all the Narnia books I liked some of his Christian apologist books. Namely, Mere Christianity & The Screwtape Letters.
I recently saw a couple of the Bourne movies on Prime. they were good.
I remember seeing The Warriors at the midnight movies when I was in high school. We used to go over there for something to do that didn't cost much & my buddy liked a girl that worked at the theater. I saw it more than once. Every time I saw it someone would try to start a fight with you or whoever else was around when you were going to you vehicle.
Then there are the four John Wick movies. I don't even know how many Mission Impossible movies there are.
Other than the first two things I mentioned I don't usually care much for sequels. They are never as good as the first one.

James Fennimore Cooper's novels were my first set. Read his works in the mid-1950s, beginning when I was in 3rd grade. Couldn't put them down and read them when I was in bed at night with a flashlight.

Read the Rings trilogy in 1969 while I was in tech school in the USAF.
