Yeah, kinda makes you wonder, why bother to have an "auction section" on the forum if no one bothers to use it, or does ONLY a select few know and could care less to let anyone else know??? matters not to me as I do NOT do "on line auctions" anyway, I want to SEE and handle them...too many fakes and redos out there anymore.......
But that does remind us how we do MISS,both Tommy as well as Bob C....... :(

Yeah...that's a tough one (price)
There's probably more story to those three drills as well.... :roll:
For some of the story on at least two of those (the engraved one and the stick drill...note that it doesn't have a Ruger Corp rollmark on it anywhere) I sold for an old timer collector by the name of Fred Nielson (along with the rest of his memorabilia collection) in the early 1980's.
There isn't anything original about the engraving....it was done or requisitioned by another old time collector by the name of Martie Kukendall.
Was pretty neat seeing those two again as I'd lost track of them.
When I first saw the stick drill in the '80's I thought it might be a really early production piece since it didn't have a rollmark at the top front of the gear housing. But the wood handle makes it later production.
Of course, that long arm on the grip drill also made me think that somebody might have changed the arms between one of the grip drills and the stick drill.
Tough telling if the paint or blue was original on any of them.

Speaking of stories, RIA posted a video about the drills and had it embedded in the listing. Here is the link to the video:

I watched it a month or so ago and thought there were a few inaccuracies but can't remember what they were offhand and don't feel like spending 14 minutes re-watching it now.

The hammer price was $4750 so the $5462.50 price is just with the 15% vig. If the buyer was bidding online and paying with a credit card, that fee would be 20.5% so $5723.75. Then shipping/insurance on top of that! And RIA charges for packing materials too.

So depending on how they were bidding, how they were paying, and whether they needed shipping, the total damages might be $5800!

When they first posted the auction,,the value was listed $750.00, then all of a sudden the estimated value jumped to 1K to 4K.
I found that strange until I watch the video,,,now I understand.
