Today's styles?

Take a look at the guy on the right in the pic below. Since this style collar first appeared they have been getting stupider and stupider. Does anyone here think this style of collar actually looks good? I just don't understand it.

That is a collar associated with mens formal attire. You can see that collar often in a formal attire setting. I see it regularly and I'm used to it. I will say however, that is the wrong style of tie for such a collar.

It's not for me, as I ALMOST NEVER wear formal attire.

Best I can do is a sport shirt collar with the top button unbuttoned.

As to the guy in the first picture, it might be a normal shirt, but that guy's neck is so big, it's stretching the collar.

Styles change and don't have to make sense. I distinctly recall in 1967 or 68 coming back to NYC on leave from where I was assigned in El Paso and seeing most every man wearing bell bottom pants. I thought they looked ridiculous, and told my wife that you would never see me wearing such dumb pants. But a few years later this style had spread across the country and about the only jeans you could buy had the flared bottoms, and sure enough there I was wearing those same pants. I even had a white linen "leisure suit" in the mid '70's. Thankfully, styles change. But now as an old codger I don't pay attention and wear the same straight jeans and the same shirts that I have owned for many years as my daily attire no matter what the rest of the world is doing. (I can't recall if I have ever worn a suit or tie in the almost 10 years since I retired other than a handful of weddings or funerals.)

There is one fashion that has never ever gone out of style. That is the women's high heel shoes. I'm kind of grateful for that one. On women I mean, not on me.

With a tie, I feel the collar should fully cover the part that goes around the neck. Sans tie, a band collar is a fine look. That collar in the OP looks like a hybrid between the two and simply looks out of place with a tie, IMO. (Might work with a bolo, but not a traditional tie.)

I know. I looked really unkempt there for awhile. But there was a reason.

When she was able, Nita kept me looking nice and did my hair cuts for me. With her illness and death, I had to find a real barbershop again. Rest assured I have.

So, what's to "understand". The man looks like a professional, has respect for other people, and want others to respect him. He has no tattoos on his neck. I would be proud to stand next to him in church.

Criticizing him is just wrong. OTOH, if someone routinely wears sweats and a backwards cap, then I fully understand.

You don't seem to understand, I'm criticizing the collar style, not the man.
