I AM THE FLAG
I am the flag of the United States of America.

My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom. I am confident.
I am arrogant. I am proud.
When I am flown with my fellow banners,
My head is a little higher,
My colors a little truer.
I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped - I am saluted.
I am loved - I am revered.
I am respected - I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war for more than 200 years.
I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appamatox.
I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy.
Guam, Okinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me.
I was there. I led my troops.
I was dirty, battleworn and tired,
but my soldiers cheered me and I was proud.

I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries
I have helped set free. It does not hurt for I am invincible.
I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled in the streets of my country.
And when it's done by those whom I've served in battle - it hurts.
But I shall overcome - for I am strong.
I have slipped the bonds of earth and
stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon.
I have born silent witness to all of America's finest hours.
But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battle field,
when I am flown at halfmast to honor my soldier,
or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,

I am proud.
I am the flag of the United States of America.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!

While the Supreme Court ruled that people could burn the flag or destroy it under their 1st Amendment rights,, it STILL angers me when it happens.

I fly a flag all the time at home,,, albeit a smaller one than my neighbor on the hill above me. He has a pretty big flag pole & flag I can easily see from my house and from my range. I smile every time I look at the both of them. I can even hear his flag popping a bit in the wind sometimes,, from my range. Line of sight of that is several hundred yards. He's a PROUD American,, and isn't afraid to show it. He has thanked me for being a Vet.
I like my neighbor.

Remember when the meaning of "A big crowd Downtown" meant FUN  I'm just thankful that I was able to grow up in the 50s time period and will not be around to see how bad it will get. :(

Thanks Jim. My flag flys 24/7 (with a light). I too remember the parades. Marched while a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Civil Air Patrol Cadet and was proud of each step following THE flag.

I fly a flag at my front gate 24 hours a day.
I marched in many a parade behind the flag of the USA while in High School Band; I am ALWAYS proud of our flag and our country !

A few weeks ago, my wife bought a new flag for my son and his fiance. The flag they had been flying on the front of their house had grown tattered and we gave it a proper ceremony, then he proudly placed the new flag in its holder. Two days later he called me and said some dipshit had come along, tore the flag down, broke the shaft ripped the flag in several spots, and took a leak on it! You could safely say he was angry.

He said he was going to get a security camera and mount it up to view the flag and the nearby walk in an effort to catch the scum should it happen again. (I would mention, that the weekend this happened, the little town they live in held a so-called BLM rally in the city park. It was really about three dozen noisy white 20 something that came down in a bus from Traverse City. They walked around town sticking leaflets in doors and mail boxes. Guess who WE suspect?)

I digress: I told him that the camera was one idea. OOORRRRR, we could quietly ask around the neighborhood and see if we could find the villain. Then we could snatch him, take him out to the big local cedar swamp, beat him to pieces and leave the remains for the bugs and scavengers.

I was kidding of course, but the EXTREMELY long silent pause on the other end of the line was most disturbing! Finally he said, " We'll just try the camera for now"

God help them if he actually catches them in the act!!!
