You used to be able to find good knives at the thrift store. In the past I’ve found a Schrade knife with gut hook, and some various name brand kitchen knives.

But not anymore it seems. I don’t know why. Probably because people are wising up about donating for free anything of value.

Anyway, here is a nice Japanese knife I found at the thrift store a long long time ago.

I’ve used it, but not that much. I think I prefer kitchen knives with really thin blades. This one is kind of thick.

But I just sharpened it. The Wicked Edge does an amazing job of getting a very straight And even bevel on the blade. It’s my favorite sharpening system. I tried to get a good picture of the blade’s edge. It must be an 8” blade. I don’t have a ruler handy but it might be 7”.

I’m not sure if I like the handle design or not. That finger hook style. It’s different, that’s for sure.

But man oh man, it’s sharp now!

Looks like a nice kitchen knife. Goodwill and other places use the internet and price accordingly. I used to enjoy getting bargains not so much anymore.

Kevin, can you post a pic of the sharpener?

Sorry, it's all packed away. I don't use it that often. It doesn't take long to set up, but it's buried in the back of the closet. Which would take a lot to get to right now…

It's the Wicked Edge Pro Pack. And then I bought the 1500/2200 grit sharpening pieces.

I bought mine on Amazon, because it came included with a heavy quartz base. It’s a big piece of granite that’s about a foot by a foot and a half wide. Give or take.

I don’t see them listed for sale on Amazon any longer. Nor do I see the model I bought on their website.

I know that some/many thrift stores never put their good products on the floor. They are much better at knowing the value of things then they used to. They have buyers that pay a decent price or put it on line or have other sources they can get a good price for things. My parents ran an antique store booth as a side hustle for decades. and got to know some of the people working there and found out why the quality of things was going down hill over the years.

I've got 2 German Henckels kitchen knives and an as new 60 yr old straight razor in the box at my local thrift shop. $1.00 each same as all the other junk knives. Also a victorinox secretary single blade alox knife.
