I finally gave in and bought one. Not a high dollar but Grandson has used one like this for two seasons and if he can't break it, well that's another story. Midway had a great offer of the knife and THIRTY replacement blades for less than the original price of the knife alone. I asked Grandson how many deer that would gut and he said 60-90. That might finish me out.
I'll still carry a REAL knife just in case.

I have always thought they were cheezy fake knives used by wannabee mountain men who can't sharpen knives. Then a few years ago I watched a hunting guide with over 10 years experience gut and skin an Elk. He pulled out an Outdoor Edge and put a new blade in it before he started. I thought WTF? I don't know what to think. The only advantage I can see is that the angle of the edge is sharper.

I have this one that was given to me by a friend who is a cop. He was chasing a kid who dropped it. It's pretty handy.

I have several types, I like them a lot. Still carry an old school hunting knife whenever I am out but do find myself using the outdoor edge and Havalon quite a bit. The havalon is excellent for caping out a critter to save a bunch of weight on your pack out, scalpel sharp all the time. Just got to watch the havalon blades are brittle

Had a couple sets of Havalons every time we butchered deer, beef and pig. Talk about getting every scrap of meat at the trim table! Didn't have to stop to sharpen as much, and didn't have to clean as much after two long days of butchering. Inexperienced guys did tend to snap a couple. Not a big deal really.

This one is an Outdoor Edge. Ad was a bit deceiving: Prominently shown on the box was 'BORN IN COLORADO'. Back side of the box says in small print 'Made in China'. :(
Like I said, if Grandson hasn't broken one in 3 years it's fairly sturdy.
