My daughter is working on a PowerPoint slide for Social Studies right now. It’s about Thomas Jefferson.

One quote she found, I thought some of ya’ll might like:

“When injustice become law.... Resistance becomes Duty.”

TJ was a remarkable individual. This may be my favorite quote of his: "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

I found out Dear Thomas Also said and I quote: “Coffee, the favorite drink of the civilized world.”

I couldn’t agree more.

I've seen where english professors will criticize the writing in the Declaration of Independence. but I will say I have never really been impressed by any of the college english profs. I got flunked by... (there was more than one).... but that document ends with words that always humble me:

"with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our Sacred Honor."

I wonder if any of our elected officials would sign something like that today?

I tend toward Ben Franklin when the subject of beverages comes up. "Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy."

I spent 6 months at the University of Va in Charlottesville. I loved my time there. Thomas Jefferson must be rolling in his grave at what UVA has become! Just as our President now, TJ was human, and flawed, but God used his intellect, and skills for His purpose, just as he did King David.

gramps, I can understand your point. If they have their way they will erase any memory and acknowledgement of Jefferson before they are done. UVA has always been pretty liberal but it's gone way past that now.

Oh, they would sign it, just like they swear an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution. Then they would promptly go back to screwing us all.

I never cease to be amazed at the good fortune our nation had by having such a collection of wise and brave men at the time of our independence and founding of our nation. Some may say it was divine providence, but for whatever reason, to have together Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, John Adama and so many others of that caliber is clearly a good part of why our nation has been successful and is a model to the world. They understood history and maybe more importantly, recognized the universality of human nature. In writing and creating the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution they gave a gift to mankind if we are smart enough to protect it.
