When I was young, I was taught that putting a single word or phrase in quotes was akin to sarcasm. "John is the 'best' cook in town" means that John is likely not a good cook.

So the BBC has a article about the guy who tackled the one Australian gunman with the headline 'He saw the victims and acted', father tells BBC of 'hero' son who tackled Bondi gunman and throughout the article "hero" is in quotes.

Bad writing or a message from the Brits about citizens taking action?

The media has a habit of doing such little digs. I just attribute it to what they see as subtle commentary in a news article . . . sly dogs that they are.

Goes along with their practice of referring to a person caught on camera doing a nasty being referred to as the alleged perpetrator.

Yeah, and they always put a negative adjective when talking about republicans. Failed gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake was in town today. Convicted felon Donald Trump was at his home in Florida... etc ad nauseum

Well, it's a little different if the digs are true. They have done the same to Biden and Harris. Still cheap shots though. Helps me make a judgement call on how much faith I put in the reporting. I find it interesting that the attempts are so obviously biased.

Unless a person is being quoted, I take quotes as being a comment that is NOT complimentary.

When?!? I don't recall ever reading much of anything negative about either from the "mainstream media" 🤷‍♂️

I put whatever number of 'quote marks' I feel like at the time.... sometimes it's 'one' and sometimes it's "two". What was the 'question' again???
Just sayin' ;)

yes, the English language and its varied use, much like when a person holds up both hands and use their first two fingers and signals "quotes" ( see I did it...Hmmm ) all in all , when used at times ,it is a form of sarcasm ( see ,NO quotes):rolleyes:;)

Apparently some are selective about which media sources they read and which they ignore. Also which public figures and administration members as well. Guess I'm not surprised. Carry on, y'all.

Anyone notice that the dipspit PM of Australia is calling for more and stricter gun control?
Paul B.

Australia talk about how they don’t want to go down the “American Road” They are held up as a model for gun control and how we should learn from Australia. Makes me sick.

I still remember the dumpsters full of milsurp and hunting rifles they destroyed.

You did say "they"... 🤷‍♂️

They have done the same to Biden and Harris.

Who is "they"?

They would be the mainstream media folks but "they didn't." Very little MSM discussion of Biden's dementia and mostly apologies for his crimes. MSM said very little about Kay-kay's total ineptitude and focused on how she was black and Asian and life was rough for the child of two college professors.

That was my thought as well. Was just looking for "clarification" 🤷‍♂️
