The transfer bar

An inexpensive and easy to replace part.I have never broken one so I had better have a spare on hand too.

That same transfer bar is used in the Vaquero. I have shot many thousands of rounds in mine without any failures. I have seen untold thousands of shots fired in NM Rugers at cowboy matches and have never seen one fail.
Replace the broken part and resume the fun!!!

You may have a clearance issue. Often the step in the face of the hammer isn't deep enough so the transfer bar takes the full force of the hammer blow. What you really want is the hammer nose and frame to touch just as the transfer bar bottoms out. That way your firing pin gets fully depressed, yet the frame is sharing the impact of the hammer.

^ what he said.

Also call Ruger. They will probably send you one for free.

I called Ruger. they will mail me a replacement. The customer service guy said I could install it myself but I'm gonna have a gunsmith do it to make sure the hammer is seated right and not putting undue stress on the base of the transfer bar.

If you are even the least bit handy with tools you can do that operation yourself.

I have done it on all of my SBH's. Takes only a couple of minutes and a relatively low skill level, which is good for me.

I polish the transfer bar first. I've found that a mirror-polished transfer bar takes away some of the "grittiness" I often feel in the SA triggers. It's routine for every new gun.
