The SR9 Trigger...

I recently acquired an ANIB SR-9. It's a very nice gun. I think it out-Glocks the Glock (and I also like Glocks). It is a bit more complex than the Glock mechanism, howoever.

I didn't like the trigger and ordered the Ghost Inc., 3.5 lb connector. After looking at their well-illustrated instructions, I chickened out, and gave the whole package (including instructions) to my gunsmith, who installed it for me.

The trigger is now crisp, with no grunge or junk, but still feels heavier than I like and, I think, is a good bit heavier than 3.5 lbs. (It feels like 5+ lbs.) This is NOT a carry gun.

What is the most reasonable way to lighten the trigger pull on this model? Could it be as simple as getting a lighter trigger spring? (I doubt it, but I can hope. I know the inner workings are more complex than that.)

(while I generally work on most of my guns myself, there were just too darned many little pieces in the trigger assembly on the SR-9 for my sometimes clumsy fingers. I'll probably have my gunsmith do it again.)

Seems to me I recall seeing somewhere on one of the Ruger Forums a discussion of what someone did to get a 3.5 lb trigger. Might want to search. Ah, here are a couple of links to this topic:

Thanks for the quick reply. I may order a new striker spring and cut a couple of coils -- as that should lighten the pull a bit. (I'll have at least one on hand before I start cutting...)

The Ghost Inc., trigger bar kit does away with some of the roughness the fellow in the first link mentions. I'm just looking for a way to lighten things up a bit, and the suggestion about cutting coils might be a solution..

Didn't have much luck going that route with my SR9c,

but you have a SR9 and YMMV. Also there were a couple changes in the striker springs over the last year or so and hard to say for sure whats in yours.
Did your smith do a nice polish job on the action while he was in there, I would think he would have?

After buying my SR9 I liked the pistol but didn't like the trigger. I ordered and installed the Ghost Rocket trigger connector, it took about six repetitions of disassembly, filing down the tang and reassembling the action. Total time was a bit over an hour. The result was a lot nicer trigger, no more gritty feeling, creepy pull. The pull feels a lot smoother and shorter with a clean break and no over travel. The trigger resets nicely with just a little easing of the pressure on it. My groups at 50' went from about 30% in the black to about 75% on a NRA 50' slow fire pistol target. To me the modification was well worth the money. With about 800 rounds now fired through the pistol it's smoothed up the action a lot. Easier to rack than it was. Originally it fired Federal 9mm Luger well but would stove pipe now and then on Remington. Now it seems to handle the Remington much better now too. I really like this pistol, it fits my hand as well as my old S&W Model 39 which had a single stack magazine. It's also my firs polymer firearm, as an old geezer I had my doubts at first but not now, this is a fine firearm.

Maybe my best course of action will be to exercise some patience, and just shoot this thing for a while.

I read through all the links, and that has been helpful, too. (I noticed that one of the links had a shooter talking about the changes he made to his gun for IDPA competition -- and if I know my IDPA rulebook, the things he was doing for IDPA were not legal, in the SSP division, at least. I doubt anyone would ever know, however.

Thanks for the contuing feedback, guys. I didn't visit the Ruger Forum before getting my SR9, even though I've had a number of Rugers over the years. I now see that I've been in error.
