Tire diameter and final drive ratio.

6th gear on a Z06 is a massive overdrive. On one stretch (from Zion back to southern California) I actually averaged 29.5 mpg. You have to downshift to 5th gear to hit the car's top speed of 173 mph (or so I'm told).

The Z06 only weighs a little over 3,000 lbs, and it is extremely aerodynamic. All of that helps dramatically with fuel efficiency, too. All in all, it is a superior example of US engineering at its best. The guys at GM really did a superior job on these cars.

I had a Mercury Cougar that would go 80 mph @ 2500 rpm's. 8)

My Forester runs 75 MPH at 3000 RPM.

My wife's Camry is barely turning 2000 RPM at that speed.

Yep, she gets much better mileage.

:)

There are many, many cars that get better gas mileage. There are none that get the kind of mileage a Chevy Z06 does and do the quarter in under 11 seconds, go from 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds, and see the north side of 170 mph.

And keep US factory folks gainfully employed...

Speed performance aside, the Camry gets 30+ MPG and lists at $20K while the least costly 'Vette is $50K. Priorities . . .

And the Camry is built just a hundred or so miles from the plant that builds the 'Vette, so it's employing US workers, too . . . right here in Kentucky.

Would I like to own a 'Vette? Does a bear . . . well, you know.

:) :) :)

Zion is pretty dang awsome. I personally liked hiking there much more than I did the rim to rim Grand Canyon trip we did in 1965 with Boy Scout Troop 134 from Hennessey Oklahoma
Grand Canyon was hot and uncomfortable, steep and lots of people.
Zion was soooo quiet and at night it was one of the best night skys I have ever seen anywhere, moonlight makes the gypsum and granite glow

Hey Dick, just buy a used C5....they go for less than 30K and still run pretty good    HMMM new Camry for 30K or a nice used Corvette for 15 to 20K......I know what I would do....wait I did it already    my 1998 C5 runs 73mph right around 1600 rpm (six speed manual) and I get right around 29 MPG.....well it is a 13 sec 1/4 mile machine so not as fast as the new C6's but I think I will keep it for now......I have put over 70K on mine and only needed 1 set of front brakes and 4 sets of rear tires    they are an incredible car for the money......RR.

Truer words were never spoken!

Great video gatlin and thanks for sharing! I even liked the 1st song that I usually mute. Great road song. I don't keep up with country music, but who is the artist and what song is it? It sounded like Dwight Yoakam.

Nice website and cool little bikes! What kind of cam did you use while riding the motorcycles? I've been thinking of getting one.

Cholo, thanks for the kind words.

I use a Flip video. I think they are still available, but Cisco bought the company and then they discontinued the line. Their reasoning was everyone has a video in their cell phone so why bother trying to compete. Dumb move, in my opinion; the cameras are great. The image quality is great and they can record up to 2 hours of video. The other thing that is nice about the Flip is that is runs continuously; most other cameras can only shoot 20 seconds or so before they stop. I think Costco still has the Flip, and there are probably a lot of places you can get them on the Internet.

And you are right about the bikes; they are cool. I rode mine to Mexico last year all the way down to Cabo and back...you can see that story here: http://www.motofoto.cc/california_scooters_conquer_baja!.htm

I love getting out on road trips, either on a bike or in a car. Got busted up real bad 2 years ago in a motorcycle accident, so I don't ride as much as I used to, but I still do. Watch out for women on cell phones in SUVs!

Yep, Dwight Yoakum is the guy singing that song.

Yep it's a Vette thing
This ones not to bad for an Old Worn out 96 with 13K on it.
Just wish it had a trunk.

That blue 'Vette is a great-looking car.

Personally, I think the C4 is the best-looking Corvette ever made.

I bought my C5 in 2004 when I saw photos of the new C6; it just did not appeal to me.
