A friend gave me this 3" patch over the weekend, and I don't know what I think about it. I got home and pulled out Hank's Patches book and the closest thing I can find is the "Australian Patch" from 1972 but its orange where this one is yellow and the Pheonix doesn't look like a strangled or scared chicken.

Thoughts?

yes, that appears to be one of the Aussie 'fakes" from years ago and now we see over on the ROCS forum somebody has a "statue" or "trophy" of a 'strangled' brass or bronzed eagle on a wooden base...bet our late friend Bob C., would love to see a "strangled chicken" , like he called the old "squashed chicken" medallions years ago,,,May he rest in Peace, we miss you Robert....... ;)

Sure looks a lot like a single headed Holy Roman Empire Bird Syble

Alex Sturm designed the Ruger Eagle. His influence was obviously from other similar items like the Roman Empire & others that used similar eagles or phoenix's.

The fakes out there,, are not as carefully crafted.
