The rock music world takes another hit, RIP

Hi,

While certainly not as big news as the losses of David Bowie and Glenn Frey, Dale Griffin, co-founder and drummer of Mott the Hoople has passed away after a long illness. Like Frey, he was 67, and the two left us the same day. Also British, Mott the Hoople's biggest hit, All the Young Dudes, was written and produced by Bowie. RIP.

Sorry to hear this. I was a huge Mott fan back in the day, and for that matter still am.

Dale 'Buffin' Griffin has been ill with Alzheimer's for 6 or 7 years... He was only 57 or 58 when he was diagnosed with the disease. Sad demise for a randy fellow like him.

And as if that weren't enough, Gary Loizzo, lead singer with The American Breed (Bend Me Shape Me, 1967) and sound technician for the band Styx died over the weekend from pancreatic cancer.

They're dropping like mosquitoes in a DDT warehouse! :shock: :?

I probably still have that on 45, I'll have to pull it out. Haven't heard it in decades. Very catchy and a local # 1, WIKI says # 5 nationally

That song was all over the radio when it came out... Incredibly popular.

The Standells (Dirty Water) were recently on a program that's going to air on PBS later on this year, and Gary was on that show apparently. It's said his voice was as crisp as it was in 1967... In spite of the fact that he was suffering the final stages of pancreatic cancer which is no picnic.

Griffin and Mott the Hoople played the north coast in the early 70's with Aerosmith and Slade! and my 8-track case held a couple... They were one of the bands that kept the beat over my glass-packed big-block Roadrunner. ;)
Always have been a fan of MTH. I watched Griffin run a 4-minute drum solo and then upstage himself, doing it again with his bare hands. RIP All the way to Memphis...
