Went trolling with Gramps out on Percy Priest this AM. Action was pretty much constant, catching crappie, Rockfish (hybrids), yellow bass, largemouth, catfish, and even a bluegill. This was the biggest, which put up quite a tussle on my light gear. Did its best to spool me and I had to chase it with the boat for multiple runs but eventually wore it down and Gramps did a nice job of folding it up to get it in the dip net. Released to fight again another day.

These guys, along with a few others of its clan, were not so fortunate..

The big one Roland is holding was 28 inches in length. It took two hands to haul the net in cause it was a whopper! I caught the biggest bluegill, and the biggest catfish. :) Oh, OK I caught the only one each of those species. We had a lot of fun. Roland is a great fishing guide. 8)

Nice pictures! Looks like everyone had fun. Just curious , how big was that monster bluegill? I used to chase them when I lived in Wi. Pound for pound they have the most fight and are the most fun to catch! Tasty too...

Around here, the hybred Rockfish are called "Wipers". Hope to catch some bluegills tommorrow. Gotta catch up on the mowing here first today. Thanks for pics.

I love to catch "bream/bluegills" as you noted they are fighters. The one I caught was 1.5 x the size of my hand, approx 1 lb. it got turned loose, cause the filets would have been small, and I didn't want to deal with scaling it.

Hi,

You bring up a couple of fond memories, Steve! In Jr. High and first couple of years of HS, there was a pretty nice bluegill pond not far from a buddy's house, and we'd try to be there as many Saturdays out of the year as possible. But there was a house rule that I couldn't go fishing until the grass was mowed. Sounds like your house has that same rule?

Hope you got out fishing today!
