Rodents do an incredible amount of damage to equipment and buildings. It can be overwhelming.

Yep,, these "eco-friendly" types do not understand the consequences of some of their "ideas & demands!" They see things as if the entire world can be green-friendly. As much as we may like for it to be that way,, it's just not feasible.
And yes,, the auto industry found it out long ago. But instead of correcting it,, they added MORE stuff as an "anti-rodent" protection at an elevated cost to consumers. Or they sell stuff in the aftermarket to add protections.

I wonder if US equipment has the same shortsighted engineering. Maybe we have recyclable artillery shells, Bombs that are bio degradable.
