The microwave oven timer challenge....

Yes my mind wanders early in the morning. Been reading the news waiting for Penny to awaken on a Saturday morning.
Who here besides me will admit that when you warm up a forth cup of coffee in the morning you press the 30 second start button, THEN stand there and try to hit the "STOP" button a fractional second just before the timer clicks down to "0:00" and the oven makes those annoying 5 beeps signaling it's done? If you time it just right, there's a certain momentary sense of satisfaction at beating a machine. Maybe a predisposition to gambling on my part (I don't gamble--- probably a good thing)?

I play a very similar game with my alarm clock every morning.

And that's why, as we speak, my microwave has 29 seconds remaining on the timer. My reflexes are not good enought to get much closer ro zero.

I'd just open the door at 3 seconds... but you would think they would have a way to turn the damn beep off... I have the same problem with our toaster oven... has a bell that 'dings' when the timer cuts it off.

I do the exact same thing too. I hate that after the timer is done, it beeps every 20 seconds or so until you open the door or hit the clear button. I really wish there was a way to disable it.
It usually takes less than 3 minutes to nuke something. My short term memory is bad, but do people really forget they put something in 2-3 minutes prior?!?!?

I do it every time I use the thing. I hate the beeps and the new one we got a few weeks ago is louder than ever and has 5 longer beeps than the one we just replaced.

You guys just had to bring up the nuclear radar oven, open the door this morning to a big flash and pop.....Just got through replacing the light bulb in my fine GE model. Had to take three panels off before I could even tell where the light bulb was, and it had its own little metal cover to remove to gain access to it.

I do that with the times all the time.. Gotten pretty good at it really. Can usually hit it with 1 sec left on the clock.. But there are days...

Now.. If I can only figure out how to set that clock on the VCR..

Suggestion: Don't set the timer to 30 seconds. Set it to 33 seconds. There are two reasons. First, you will have a 3 second cushion to use the stop button. Second and most importantly, you won't waist time moving your finger from the 3 alllllllllll the way across the key pad to the the 0. You just bump the 3 twice.
We're all getting older and should use our time more efficiently. Yes, I had to turn my tablet 90 degrees so my keyboard would get smaller just so I could type this reply. This is why I don't post more often.

Most micro's let you just hit 'START' for 30 seconds or when you want to add 30 seconds to the time.

I have never tried stopping the thing before the DING but I almost always only let it DING just one time before opening the door otherwise if you stop it before the DING then you have to hit 'CANCEL' to reset.

Yep, me too. It's always a challenge to yank open the door just as the last second shows up. Our microondas resets to zero if you do it right.

As I said, perpetually I have unused time on the timer. Ifns i want to heat some coffee, I hit the one minute button twice. When I think it's warm enough, I open the door. Then when I need to reheat something again, I just hit the go button, as there's still time left on the meter. And again, I open the door when I think it's hot enough. And whenever I need to, I hit the minute button a couple more times to have more time on the meter.

The timer bell seldom rings. That's important, as I'm bouncing around the house at 5AM, and I don't dare wake my wife before I make her breakfast. :mrgreen:

I do it all the time. Then realized if I let the timer expire - it beeps 3 times. If I stop it at 1 second it beeps. Then I have to clear the timer and it beeps again. So 2 or 3 beeps - I still prefer the 2. Makes me feel superior to the microwave knowing I can stop it at any time! It's the one thing in the house I have control over; wife - NO; dog - NO; 2 cats - NO

I hate to be the stick in the mud, but it beeps for 3 seconds so you know it is safe to open the door. Microwaves are bouncing around in there. The 3 seconds gives time for them to be absorbed in the food, before you open the door.

A Google search says it's safe, so carry on with your game. If it's on the internet, it has to be true.

Your all nuts- I have a new system - every time it beeps a count down is counting down and at the right number, the
machine shuts down for good, its broken.
The only way to prove it means---and Im not going to say it as she'll put me away, we have to find out how many beeps.
Any volunteers?
