Watched an old western movie on TCM today. I was surprised that I don't remember ever seeing it before. It was "The Last Sunset" with Kirk Douglas and Rock Hudson.

Talk about stupid gun things in movies, this one really took the prize. Douglas was the semi bad guy and Hudson was the good guy. The really stupid part was that Douglas only carried a single shot derringer for armament. He wore a belt full of cartridges and just stuck the derringer in the gun belt at his waist. It wasn't that he couldn't get or want another gun. That derringer was his choice of weapons for self defense. He said he could draw and fire it faster than any six gun.

So in any bad situation he got in all he had was that single shot derringer. Now tell me any bad guy in his right mind would go about armed only with a derringer. Got to be the dumbest thing I ever saw. And before anybody asks, no he wasn't a gambler.

I don't know why he wasn't smart enough to at least carry two derringers.

Old Kirk recently turned 100. He's still kickin!

His movies in general were verrrrrrrrrry 1950's gar-barge...

Hi,

Kirk didn't do so well with a six gun in "The Villain" where he was the bad guy playing against Ahhnuld as the good guy and Ann-Margret as the damsel in distress. Maybe he just wasn't cut out to be a gunslinger?
