There's been multiple Code Talkers that were claimed to be the last.

I have been very involved with Veterans issues over the years. I have personally visited with the Code Talkers, The Tuskegee Airmen, and the Nisei Warriors.

They all had such wonderful presentations and in their sharing of their history, they make everybody feel very welcome to hear their stories.

Yeah, seems like the last 3 or 4 years every few months I see something about the "last" code talker dying. Then, not long after, there's an article on the "last" code talker who is currently alive and well. I wonder if there are any more left now and who actually is/was/will be the actual last one.

I recently read a somewhat new book “Navaho Code Talkers” or titled something similar. Very interesting in parts. It covered one guy’s experience with reservation & school life, the Marines, the formation of the unit, combat in the Pacific and life afterwards. I can’t remember if he claimed to be the last. Surely their can’t be many if any left now.

My wife and I had the pleasure and honor to meet Peter MacDonald three years ago. We were on a western trip visiting Monument Valley and staying at a motel in Kayenta, Az. when we went to the dining area and met him. He was actually scheduled to give a talk on the history of the code talkers. I have several pictures of the three of us.

Unless their records were "lost" -say in that fire in St. Louis-it should be easy to verify if someone served and was assigned to that unit.
