There's a good documentary involving Apollo 13 also - better than most, and better than the movie in my book.
This video accurately captures most of the important things about the danger involved with that mission. First there was no way there. Then there was no way back. Then nobody knew if they made it back. It was danger piled upon catastrophe followed by potential disaster right until - literally - splashdown and probably the most heroic and brilliant life-saving rescue operation that has ever actually worked. Don't watch the movie with Kevin Bacon and Tom Hanks. Watch this. The people who were actually in the spacecraft and on the ground provide the commentary.

And Gene Krantz really glued that effort together. He says it in another video talking about Apollo 13: "...then the training kicks in." You work the problem. Then you work the next problem. Then you work the problem that comes from the solutions of the first two problems. And you don't stop, and you don't freak out, and you don't quit. That's what saved those guys.

It's still pretty slow for interplanetary travel, though. If anyone is going to Mars with human beings, that record isn't going to stand for long.

^ I believe I'm remembering an interview with Harrison Schmitt, there was some problem or miscalculation... or recalculation and they had to go sooner than originally planned.
Anywho.... watched the flick, it was enjoyable. Well worth it to anyone with an interest in the subject matter.
