Who shoots this caliber and loves it? I took dad's out yesterday and sighted it in. Very pleasant caliber to shoot. Makes me want a #1 RSI all the more. Dad's is an Interarms mauser with custom stock.
 
Wife has a Mountain Rifle in 7x57. Great Caliber. Only game animal she's shot was a running 275 lb sow pig at 235 yards. One shot, one kill.
 
I have a Ruger No. 1 Light Sporter in 7x57. I have used it for deer and turkey in the mountains of Virginia. I can load it to any velocity I want as the factory ammo is loaded down in case folks use it in an old Mauser that won't take the higher pressures.

I like it a lot.
 
I have an M77 RSI chambered in 7x57 - I fixed the long throat issue in mine so I have more flexibility in hunting rounds. I like it almost as much as my 6.5x55 M77 RSI. Both are great rifles in great cartridges.
 
I cant wait to get into thisone a little more will be on thelookout for an RSI of some sort.

I have a #1 RSI in 7x57 and love it the best shooting #1 I have though I have not reloaded for it yet I think that will make it even better.

I currently have two; a Remington Rolling Block and an Argentine FN-49 semi-auto. Previously I had a sporterized Mexican Mauser. It was my first "bear rifle" :). I like the cartridge a lot.
 
The group I hunt with favor the 7x57. I have never had a deer move after being hit with one. On of the best deer calibers out there. My hunting group has accounted for hundred's of deer over the years. I hunt with a M77 in that caliber. We have found that the recoil is fine for the female members.
 
I have two 7x57s, one a Sauer and Sohn Mauser that is very nice and another even nicer FN Mauser...both shoot well. I favor the FN because it's much lighter. I've never heard any deer complain when I shot them...

The 257 Roberts, a 7x57 necked down to .25 caliber is another outstanding rifle cartridge.

Hi,

And she's still got company! If one wants to check the Gallery and Hunting forums for posts by our own Kudu77, Pieter's posted many pictures over the years of game he and his hunting buddies have taken in South Africa and thereabouts where they live and hunt... many of them were taken with two "classic" cartridges, the .30-06 and the 7x57.

BTW, whether you're a hunter or not, you'll probably enjoy a lot of his pictures of the local landscape, sunsets and other non-hunting subjects!

I have three. A Ruger #1A, Winchester M70 XTR Featherweight and a custom built on an FN Mauser action. I did at one time have a neat European sporter that was a close clone of a .275 Rigby and a Ruger M77 tang safety. I do like the 7x57 but it has been a very unlucky cartridge for me.
Back in 1973, with the European sporter I had, the only ammo I could find was Federal 175 gr. round nose. I shot a nice eating size Mule Deer which took off in a fast run. After looking for a while I went home and got my wife to help look for the deer. There was some blood but the trail had petered out quickly. The deer was shot around 8 in the morning and we didn't quit looking until it was too dark to see anything.
About 13 years ago now, I was hunting with my then brand new to me M70 FWT with a stiff hand load using W760 and the 140 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip at 2800 FPS. Caught a nice eating size Mule Deer right behind the shoulder and it left the herd and went down into a gully while the rest of the deer ran up and over the hill. While climbing up to where I could look into the gully, my right foot twisted one way while my fat butt went the other way. I heard a tearing noise and could no long walk. I'd completely torn the meniscus in my right knee. My hunting partner and his son refused to go down into the gully to find my deer, preferring to carry me out and to a doctor. :x
I really can't blame the cartridge but the only two deer I've ever lost were both shot with rifles chambered to the 7x57.
So what am I doing? Trying to work up a suitable elk load for either the Mauser or the M70 for an upcoming cow elk hunt. :roll:

I passed up that very model at a gun show for only $500 years ago. In my own defense, I didn't have the money. Still kick myself.

I have a Winchester M70 Featherweight in this chambering topped with a Leupold 2.5 power scope. In my opinion, it is the perfect combination of rifle, cartridge, and scope. The 7x57 is my candidate for the best medium game cartridge ever devised. Introduced in 1892, nothing has come along that betters this perfectly balanced load.
 
Currently have 3-Interarms MkX with Ramline stock, VZ24 rebarelled with a SS 24" A&B, 1916 Mauser with a Ramline(otherwise stock). The first two use "hotrod" handloads with great results and the 3rd does fine with standard (wimpy) factory ammo. The first two have killed around 30-40 deer for me and several coyotes that were dumb enough to cruise past my deer stand.
I don't feel handicapped when using the 7x57 except in those spots requiring 300+ yard shots. Sure, it will do that but others do it better.
 
My first 7x57 was a 93 Spanish Mauser MILSURP that I used as a poor boys deer rifle. It was very accurate and a good shooter, and several deer didn't know that hardball surplus 175 gr ammo wasn't good hunting ammo. My current one is a M77 (tang safety) that I bought new when they first came out to replace the 93 Mauser that I had foolishly traded away. If I had to go to a single rifle, I would be hard pressed to choose between the M77 and a Remington .308 that I have, but the edge is with the M77.
 
Folks, I was just funning you. I happen to love the .30-30 with its flat nosed 150 grain bullet at 2400 fps when a 7x57 can get a 145 grain spitzer up to almost 2900 fps.

Yeah, I hear you on that. Too many years of shooting seriously big stuff has takel a toll on my right shoulder. I'm seriously considering selling the .416 Rigby and the shoulder gives me unholy hell for about a week after torching off a few rounds. Rifle is a Ruger #1H with that very skimpy piece of rubber Ruger insists is a recoil pad. I may keep the .404 Jeffery as it has a muzzle brake on it which tames it down a bunch.
I still shoot my .35 Whelen though. I'll probably never give that one up.

I have a 7x57 #1 international, It likes longer bullets and IMR 4350 powder. 150 Nosler works great.
