Well, I had some friends over for a good shoot yesterday.

This friend had acquired a six shot .480 SRH (7 1/2") w/ a Leop 2X scope but he did not really want to hang on to it after he fired it!!

I have been discussing options for him ......... like ME!

After the dust settled ........ I was short one .44 SRH 9.5 and my beloved SP 101 .357 in 3".

I guess I'll have to change my handle to Two 44s NOW?

I like that big lead!!!

It comes with box and papers, RCBS steel dies, some brass and bullets. All it seems I'll need to buy is shell holders and a trimmer pilot. If we don't do a deal on the scope, he keeps it .... I'm not much on scopes on revolvers and I have a good one sitting collecting dust most of the time anyway!

The rest of the deal involved some other choice items of his I have been sitting on and he sweetened the deal with an unused walnut stock for the TC.

SWEET!!! Love my 480, can load mild to WILD! 275 grain white tail deer killer to 400 grain bulldozer...

Yes, Frank Castle! ............ mild to wild! LOL!

I took the scope off today and zeroed in with the iron sights. I miss the added weight of the scope with this one!!! 400 gr. slugs do put the "thump" on a guy!!!

Just like my .44's in the begining ..........I'll load them mild, then "wild"!!

I have the same gun and what I found that works great is to order a set of grips for the ruger alaskan with the zorbathane insert in them. They work awesome with the recoil and make the 480 a pleasure to shoot. Mine came with a custom set of grips that were wood fingergroove type they were nice looking on the gun but almost brutal to your hand when shot. I also got the original rubber grips with the wood inserts but went with the alaskan grips with the cushion in them and they made a big difference in the felt recoil.

Yep great gun .Ty let me shoot his last weekend and I liked it .His wasn't scoped and she had a bit of a kick to her but not that bad a fun gun no doubt.

Congrats! You Need to post some Photos!
As for Two 44s, you have an excuse to buy another 44 :D . You just can't go around changing your name, I wouldn't know who you are  .......................................

Contender and Chief_10Beers,

Can I quote you guys as giving me permission to buy another .44 back so my handle does not have to change????? LOL!!

I've had an inclination to find a Marlin in .44 ........... on the other hand, a rifle in .480 would be grand ..... so many guns, so little time! I'll have to get on those pictures.

Thanks

The grips are available from Midway and others. Hogue "Tamers".
Another good addition would be a Marble Green Fiber Optic front sight.
For Glass the 30mm UltraDot is hard to beat.

It is a great all purpose gun when handloaded for. Mild to Wild is a very accurate term. I am even loading shot shells for mine. Great snake gun also.

I always wear a thin leather glove when shooting the 480. It protects the trigger finger from the front of the trigger guard as well as helping to maintain the grip during recoil. I also bought a set of the Hogue Tamer grips for it.

The thing to remember is to not fight the rise of the gun during recoil. Just let the gun come up and that will soak up a lot of the recoil energy.

I shoot mine with a 365 grain bullet loaded over 21 grains of 2400 for a velocity of 1225 fps and it is not bad at all, once I got used to it. Hell, I can even shoot it one handed, although not very well.

Bob R,

I have both the orange and the green front glow sights and green is my favorite.

I don't have the Ultradot but read good things by all who have it.

My favorite has been the Holosight, I have the single dot and the conventional circle and dot.

On my SRH (44) that I traded for this .480, it wears a One Ragged Hole appeture (the smallest one) and the Ruger front bead (painted black). It had a 9.5" barrel and that long sight radius was grand.

That appeture made the trade even though I have dibbs on it IF I can't replace it!!

I had not even thought about shot shells ..... could you expand on that??

Thank you

5of7,

Yes, thin gloves do more than one would ever think! I found that with my heaviest loads for the Ruger DA's even in .44 mag!

On my really "cheap" days, I have even found comfort with those little white cotton meat cutter gloves!! (One that came to me FREE!) ........... hows that for cheap?? LOL!

I get that back of the finger rap with big guns also and a little of that goes one hell of a long ways!

My thinking is that the softer the rear of the grip the more of that one would get? I noticed none with that finger rap .480 of mine but it has the conventional factory grip and it's not what you'd consider very soft.

The worst I experienced of that was with a long gun. In my case a neighbor who has a custom Mauser in .416 Taylor. The recoil I could handle .......... I let him shoot from his bench ... Me ...... I stood up or used my stix!! But that finger and knuckle rap on the back of the trigger guard ..... that hurts!

Thanks

I'd never put a number in my handle. It might limit me as to how many I can buy. Yeah right!
You have my permission to buy at least one more 44. Tell the little lady you have to, I told you to. After that, you are on your own!
:D :D
