Good news! Trigger delivered. Bad news, gun is still at Ruger for another 2 weeks! Man this sucks!

Major bummer!!!

Although it's probably a good thing your SR9c didn't go back to the mother ship with the Ultimate installed!

DemskeetSkeet: they're $22.95 and can be found at

http://www.ghostblock.com/category/ultimate_for_ruger

Be aware of the fact that there are two types.. the first type requires fitting (TCT) and the second type is a straight drop in model. However, either one requires the SR to be taken down well beyond field stripping. Check out the posts by jhearne regarding tearing down the SR9; the SR40 is virtually identical.

Cheers!

I've been watching jhearne's video and it seems like it's pretty easy. I plan on polishing up some of the parts to get my sr9c as smooth as possible.

I have the Ghost Rocket in my SR9c. I couldn't be happier with it!! :D There is NO overtravel at all, and the pull is considerably lighter. It takes some time to fine tune it but it is worth the effort. You can also check the www.ghostinc.com website

I don't understand why so many are concerned about over travel with these pistol triggers. I can see how pull weight or roughness would be desirable to reduce, but over travel has been something I and my friends only address with precision, long-range rifles. This being a defense pistol, I do not see how that can be an issue.

My SR9c came with an excellent trigger right out of the box. A little polishing of key parts and it's smooth and breaks under 4 lbs. It is already more accurate than any other pistol I've shot or owned, except for revolvers, but is darn close to revolver accuracy.

As good as it may be to some, there are always others that want better--I don't understand why someone would be concerned about what others choose to do? ;)

Sorry, but I'm inclined not to believe that a simple polishing of parts brought your trigger weight down to a consistent under 4lb break.

Modification without "justification" is an age old debate. Some people just want better, and better is subjective to opinion. This has and will continue to go on with man toys as long as testosterone is around. Prob. more so with cars, but lets face it, guns are a hobby, passion, or even just a piece of mind for most people, and rarely are they used for the intended purpose. I've been on both sides, and at this point in my life, if it works dont fix it is my standard. That said, sometimes having something just a little "better" then the next guy brings piece of mind to some....nothing wrong with that, it helps drive the economy. 8)

And drive our wives crazy! :D

Kenny

Nah....every new part, gun, holster / toy is always $19.95. That saves a ton of arguments. After that quits working then you just spend lots on her on holidays, and try to make it something you can use.

BTW....like your sig...its awesome :)

It's really simple: If you can take something good and make it great, then why not do it. I really like the feel of a trigger that has no overtravel. For me it also helps me to reaquire the target faster, easier, and with better accuracy. I also use this pistol at the range just for the fun of shooting. It's not just a defense pistol.

Ruger just sent me an email. They sent it out today so I'm hopin to get it before Wednesday! Thank goodness.

I understand all of that and it's a damn good post.

My point had to do with a modification to a defense gun. Well a modified defense gun becomes a range gun, at least for me. You can get to the point that the gun isn't safe because a trigger is too light or if the slim chance you use your modified defense gun in an altercation, you go to jail or prison or get your tail sued off. I'm not kidding here. Even a slightly modified gun should not be carried or counted on in a defense situation.

I'll admit I prob. haven't given enough thought to the what ifs. I have a CCW in the works and some literature ordered and intend to give more thought to it before I carry a loaded weapon. Guess my post was more the "modify to make better" in general topic. In this case you may have a good point. I figured if someone pulls a knife and comes at me it doesn't matter if I grab a brick, a bazoka, or a modified hand gun, I have the right to defend myself. I'm not sure why a gun that is functionally the same only smoother or shorter travel trigger would matter, but if it does then people should definately consider that before using as a CC. Are you saying they shouldn't be counted on because of law, or becasue of safety and reliability? Just curious.

That's a downright silly thing to say. And I'm not kidding either.

LOL. Even more silliness.

If I'm to continue that line of thought, spetch99's "unmodified" (at least with aftermarket parts) with a 4lb trigger is more dangerous than my "modified" (with Ghost Rocket trigger bar) SR9c that has a trigger weight of at least 5lbs.

And God forbid anyone carry a 1911. Those hair triggers are dangerous. [/sarcasm]

This is one thread you should read (there are many more)
or maybe just get a book.

I have a lot of range guns I built myself and shoot them just fine and often but I do have a few defense guns and they're not modified for several reasons.

It will matter because some shyster scumbag lawyer for the churchgoing-choir-boy perp's family will claim that you were a bloodthirsty vigilante that couldn't be satisfied with a stock gun as it came from the manufacturer ... you had to make it even MORE deadly because YOU .... not the criminal .... are a gun-toting maniac that was just dying to shoot the poor innocent perpetrator that attacked you.

The shyster lawyer will attack you, ask about your gunsmithing training (which you most likely don't have), call Ruger in to testify if needed, and Ruger will of course say that NO MODIFICATIONS are authorized on their guns, and that any modifications could make the gun un-safe. Now .... do you REALLY want to carry a gun like that ??? Or would you rather just say .... Hey .... ask Ruger .... they made the gun and I haven't changed it a bit.

Well, maybe I'll be lucky enough for the perp to be the scumbag lawyer and I can get 2 birds with 1 stone.

Seriously though, I have no intention to modify my gun, I really like it just as is, but I do want to educate myself on the do's and don'ts for if / when I decide to carry as I prefer to avoid rude awakenings. I appreciate the advise.

If I have to use my SD weapon, it is to save my life or my family. I could care less what happens after that. As long as we are here alive, and the perp. isn't, I'll be happy with that. Let the chips fall where they may after that.

An easy, macho-man (but not very sensible), thing to say before it happens .... clearly you've never been involved in the justice system as a defendent. Even if you win, you're out $25-50K. If you could care less if any of that happens .... GREAT !! Enjoy !

I'd read Massad Ayoob's 'In the Gravest Extreme' if I were you. Then see if you 'could care less', and still have such a cavalier attitude to the potential legal aftermath of a self defense shooting.

The justice system is a joke. My buddy works as a correctional officer and the things he tells me makes me sick. It's pretty much all about who's got the money to get the best piece of sh!t lawyer. It's not about what's right or wrong anymore. What's got me really pissed is that the tax money we pay to the great state of California goes to keeping child molesters, killers and gang members alive while they are in jail. Did u know they have flat screen tv's in their cells and there is no lights out or limit to how long they can watch?!? Did you know that if an officer and an inmate get into a fight and they both need serious medical attention that the inmate gets flown in a helicopter while the officer has to go in an ambulance? I don't want my money going to keeping these animals alive. I thought they lost their rights when criminals go to jail. People who need dialysis like my uncle are paying out the ass in order to get all his treatments and is waiting for a transplant while an inmate is getting all that for free because if the prison doesn't take care of him it's inhumane and they don't want to get sued. The yugo is backwards. Sorry i just had to vent.

Exactly ... and that is PRECISELY the reason that you don't give any potential opposition a legal advantage to fry you on.

I've said it may times. If you read Massad Ayoobs book, it's very likely that you WON'T carry a gun, even if you were considering doing so. The legal pitfalls are massive for someone with no training in the justified use of a firearm in a self defense shooting. That's pretty much what the book is all about. It's a really good read.

Saying things like 'I could care less about the consequences' is certainly and un-thought out point of view, and is likely to result in circumstances that you never could have foreseen, after speaking with such bluster.

again, I'll reiterate. As long as my family and myself are alive, and the perp isn't, I am Fine with that! Let the chips fall where they may. It is very well thought out for me. It may not work for you but that's your issue.

I see both of your points Rev and Big Stu. Rev I don't know if you have any kids but for me, if I'm ever put in the position where someone is going to do harm to myself or my loved ones and my fists just won't be enough then im willing to die for them which is what I feel Big Stu is saying. It might not be the smartest thing if you really are going to plan what ifs but in the heat of the moment I'm the type of person that can't see a loved one being hurt and not do anything. I will probably do whatever needs to be done to stop it. If I know what I did was right then I'm okay with that. Send me to jail and I'll have one of the states Rosie O'Donnel lawyers fight for me. Haha!

You're right Tym, and in the case of an absolute immediate need you'll be OK in either case, and I agree with both of you guys ... if the knife hand is coming down toward me or anyone in my family, you do what you have to do. THere are however a LOT of other circumstances that can occur, in many varying degress of threats during which education and knowing the law is definitely in your favor. You can't just blow someone away if they look at you funny, you can't blow them away if the threat has ended, or the distance is too great, or they don't have what the court would consider a deadly enough weapon.

If you have to use your gun in almost any circumstance, YOU ARE GOING TO BE SUED OR PROSECUTED. During that case, any and all pertinent facts will be brought up by the other side. Was your ammo handloads, was your gun modified, were you ever overheard talking about shooting someone, were you known to be a wise guy who spouted off at people, did you shoot at silhouettes at the range, did you shoot at targets with people's faces (like saddam), were you ever known to be unsafe at the range, did you belong to any gun forums where you spouted off or bragged that you would shoot someone ? Etc, etc, any attorney would ask these questions and about 1000 more. If you DON'T think all that would happen, then you are being naive. Also, as with almost ANY cop shooting, your gun will immediately be seized and held for evidence. It will be analyzed for function, modifications, removal of safety devices (think mag disconnect), lightened triggers, etc, etc.

Even if the shooting is justified, the opposing lawyer will try to paint you as a gun crazy lunatic that was just itching for a gunfight, and every time they can make a point that you tried to make your gun more deadly or easier to shoot than the factory supplied it, is a point against you. It may not be right ... but it's what happens in this sick justice system that we use. Oh, and one other thing is for sure .... there won't be any shooting enthusiasts on the jury to see it your way ...

This thread would NOT be a good thing to have as an evidence exhibit in court if Big Stu was on trial for a shooting, and they were trying to establish what type of demeanor he had regarding firearms and self defense .... primarily because the object of self defense is to STOP THE THREAT .... not END SOMEONE'S LIFE, as he stated several times when he stated 'as long as I'm alive and the perp isn't'. That would not be a good thing to have a jury hear. It's things like this that you have to think about, and the book mentions a whole lot of them.

Hey !! Go for it !! :D

REV

I haven't read the Ayoob book Rev is referencing but I have read "The Gun Digest Book of Comabat Handgunnerry 6th edition (I think it might be 5th) that he authored & he discussed some of the same things in it.

I do understand about wanting to protect ones family but I personally don't believe a lightened trigger is necessary to accomplish that. If it is I should spend more time working on trigger control.

Hooray for hijacked threads!

Thanks for reminding me why I've chosen to steer clear of the Internet gun community.

Mike J buying the lightened trigger had nothing to do with protecting my family. I mainly use my gun for just going to the range and plinking. The topic of protection just came up.
