I was just reading some news stories about texting.

Apparently “lol” is dead and replaced with “ijbol” or “I just burst out laughing.” I’m not sure if this is true or not. My expert is still asleep. I’ll ask her when she wakes up. 😀

And another thing. You aren’t supposed to use punctuation in texts either. Especially periods. I did know this from before. Periods in texts make you sound angry somehow?

In our family we text each other a lot. It’s much easier than yelling across the house. Our daughter can be in her room and my wife and I will just text her and have conversations this way.

I know some of you might scoff at this idea of a text being a real conversation, BUT, to teenagers, it is real. It reaches them which is better than nothing. To them it’s how they communicate with each other. So really we are able to talk.

Admittedly, she can text better than I can. I have to consciously think about not using punctuation. But I try. 🤣

Oh, and by the way, that emoji 🤣 or 😂 for laughing is out too. Replaced by 💀 for some God only knows reason.

In our house my mother or father would have just yelled at me to drag my lazy butt out of my room and had a face to face
conversation. Depending on the topic it may have been a in my face "conversation"....but I was a wonderful child so that seldom
had to happen.

Agreeded with the too many letters. I don’t see it catching on. If anything, texting slang is getting shorter and more choppy.

And just to be clear, we do have many face to face conversations. Especially when it’s important, lol.

To you text to set an appointment for them?:devilish:

I text my grandkids because that's their way of communicating and it's nice being an old guy to learn new things.

Four grandkids, one class of 2024, two class of 2026 and class of 2030, so if I want be in the loop, have to get with the program. :)

Yep, same here, glad you understand!

I have started using those emoji's... but I will not stop punctuating.... sorry, I was brought up better... even though I don't do it right.

(I have no children and so I guess any of my grandkids or just tough out of luck. )

My wife will often start texting my daughter on my phone. (or replying for me) Some times it drives me crazy because her phrasing is nothing like i would type. I mentioned it to my daughter once and she said, "don't worry Dad, Mom's texts usually don't sound like you at all, plus she can't spell, and doesn't use punctuation."

I was drug kicking & screaming into the texting world. I'm an old phart. But I refuse to give in to bad grammar, or the lack of punctuation. Especially since much of my texting is done with potential customers & other professionals.
My kids,, (in their 40's) text,, but we all still talk a lot more than any texting crap.

My texting is horrendous. Most of the time I really want them to be correct, but I keep hitting the "." button about 3x in every text. Sometimes I just say: Eff it!

I can't imagine posting anything of length on this Forum with my phone.

I hate texting.
It's OK for sending an address or number , but it drives me nuts when people will text back and forth for an hour , where a 5 minute call would have done the job.
Kids these days don't know how to have a conversation. They will set in the same room and text back and forth. It's ridiculous.

I don’t have (or want) a computer. If my posts seem poorly written I will blame the fact that I use my old iPhone.

One of my employees is an 'emoji guy'. Another has bulbous fat fingers and sends some pretty weirdly spelled texts. I use text so I have a record of the correspondence in case there's a mix up.

Same here, I really only access the forum on my computer when I want to post a picture.

Otherwise it’s 100% phone. And by the way, the “new” format here (yes I know it’s a few years old now,) looks better on a phone than the previous version.

Ahhh...there's the REAL reason I don't mind texting. I build a record of WHAT was said, WHEN it was said, and WHEN it was replied to. "But you never told me" is more difficult to use as the excuse.

I used to save emails for the same reason. But today's kids treat emails like 800-page classic novels...useless, boring and a waste of time.

I punctuate. Always. It greatly lessens ambiguity.

Unless auto correct capitalizes for me I may miss that aspect but punctuation is very important. Remember helping Jack off the horse.

You people need to be creative using texting.

I pickup my wife's phone, when she doing something else or in the bathroom, group text my daughters and granddaughters, ask them if they want to go to Walmart or shopping. They think it's mom or grandma, so the next thing you know I have the house to myself because out the door she goes. Makes a very nice Saturday afternoon. :)

GEEZE, you guys are making me feel "OLD"; I don't text; only have a flip phone which I turn on at least once a week to be sure it works.

My wonderful wife handles all "communications" and only tells me the critical items that I absolutely, must need to know.

I lead a peaceful, joyous life.

IMHO (hope they don't "cancel" this one)

An EMP over this country would wipe out over 1/2 of our population in less than 2 weeks because of our dependence on electronics. Most people under 30 can’t function without it, let alone read a map to find there way anywhere. I will continue to utilize proper punctuation and sentence structure, also a dying skill set.

BT338, don't forget their electric cars..... they certainly won't need maps when the cars can't go anywhere.
