Tech-Sight for Mini 14?

I have 2 Mini 14's. One is a stainless Ranch with a scope and the other is one of the newer Tactical models. I want to keep the Tactical version with iron sights.

I don't like the factory iron sights. Has anyone swapped them out for the Tech-Sight version?

I would like to hear a few reports before I buy them. I won't do it if they're not deemed a good enough upgrade to justify the cost.

Thanks a lot!

I might be looking at something better also, depending on how well the factory sight works for my older eyes. I can try my EOTech sight, which I am currently using on a .25 cal Hatsan Sniper air rifle.
Used to use it on my BFR .45-70 hand cannon.
It seems to work very well atleast out to 30yds.,or about as good as your vision is at distance.
Hopefully the new Mini 14 will be here Tuesday.

Go for the Eotech, my eyes don't get along with iron sights to well after lasik. I recently purchased a new AR and put an Eotech 512 on it, once I got it adjusted it was great, ran 30 rds at 50 yrds, maybe 6-7 flyers due to jerking the trigger but had a large hole in the center. I know I could not have done that with the iron sights.

Since I have my other Mini scoped, I'd like to keep this one with iron sights. I really don't care for the factory rear sight. The front sight is tough and robust like the rest of the rifle, but they put a cheesy 15 dollar sight on the back of it?

I don't get it.

I will probably spring for the Tech-Sight but I was hoping to get some firsthand experience first.

I'd get a set.... I have no experience with them on a mini 14/30 only with a 10/22. The only problem I had on the 10/22 was in bright light and reflection/glare inside the peep hole. fixed that by using a butane lighter and all was good.

I have Tech-Sights on both of my Mini's (14 & 30) 581 series, Ranch. Work great for older eyes! Sighted in at 100 yds, work nearly as we'll as my M1A sights (those are easier to adjust, no tools required).

Just curious... what prompted you to get the Tech-sight(s) over the factory sight? What was it about their factory sight that you didn't care for?

One of my concerns with the Tech-Sight as I research it more is they're quite a bit bigger than the factory sight. Does it seem bulky on the gun and prone to getting bumped around?

The Tech-Sights are not much larger than the factory sights for the newer Mini's; see the comparison pictures here: http://www.tech-sights.com/

My principal reason for changing was that I didn't like the "loosen the set screw on one side, tighten the set screw on the other side" method of changing windage. The Tech-Sights behave more like an M1 Garand sight (but do need a tool).

the 'old' standard mini-14s just took a special tool or bullet tip to adjust.... the ranch styles are like described above.... the first time I was out in the woods and wanted to shoot my first mini-30 ranch rifle I discovered the rear peep sight had fallen off somewhere along the way.... not fun. I'm met the tech sight folks and they seem like nice people... were actually at an Appleseed project but oddly enough did not try to promote their product, just shot.
