Tax-free weekend in Mississippi...

...Starts tomorrow,last through the weekend and is good for both walk-in and internet sales....Guns, ammo, reloading supplies, etc...plus, a lot of local sporting goods stores have been advertising additional discounts on the radio for the past few days....Myself, I contacted my usual ammo supplier to verify that he honors Mississippi's offer, which he does, so I'm putting in an ammo order first thing tomorrow morning....No tax and his usual free-shipping, yeah, I'll go for that....

I'll be spending some time and probably some $$ at Gary's in Columbus tomorrow. I hope it's not too crowded this year.

Texas does ours the 1st or second week of August. Should be middle of July when people should be school shopping but they don't wanna discount travelers' tax earnings. It doesn't entice me at all because it's mostly clothes, etc. it applies to. 8.25% discount is not worth the crowds.

Went by my LGS (Gary's P&G in Columbus) yesterday (Friday) morning about 15 minutes after they opened. Was gonna spend some money, but there wasn't any available parking within walking distance, and probably 2 dozen people waiting outside in the heat for their turn to get in. Probably be the same all day today. Millions of $$ will be spent on guns and gun/archery stuff in MS this weekend.

That sounds more like the more common "back to school" tax-free event. Not really what's being talked about here. This here event is strictly for hunters, shooters, re-loaders, etc...You know, guns ammo, and stuff....more akin to a "2nd Amendment" type of event....At any rate, if you think that a 8.25% discount ain't worth the time, my hat's off to you. Myself, I've got to watch every penny these days, and the way I look at it is that aside from the offer of additional discounts one see's that are there just to entice shoppers into a particular store, just the tax savings alone is kinda like getting a free box of ammo every time I buy 10....so yeah, it matters.

Washington State was considering this a few years ago. Our illustrious Governor decided it would be too confusing for retailers to implement. WTF, they’re not stupid.

I was going to buy a new car and a few guns. Could have been a nice shot to the LOCAL economy.

Texas has 4 tax holidays. Two are concurrent.
