I know it's not a ruger, but you guys seem more knowledgable than the other forum I go to. So my sister lives down in texas and was feeling a little nervous living in an apartment by herself and wanted a handgun. I took her shooting when she was up in PA a few weeks ago and she seemed to like it. She just went to a gun show with a friend from down there and picked up what I believe to be a used Taurus 617. Just by comparing pictures it appears to be a 617BC which is discontinued. Does anyone have one? I'm just curious to what people think of it. It seems like the new version is the 617B2 so I'm assuming they're similar. Thanks in advance for any info.

Its a small 2 inch barrel gun, I am sure shr will not wear it out. I have had many friends buy Taurus revolvers in the past and had no problem.

If she was competing might be different, but she shouldnt have any issues with it.

ACM73, Welcome to the forum. I have owned a lot of Taurus handguns in my time and as a long time gunsmith, if I thought they were junk, I would have never owned them at any price! Enough said about that......................Dick

Sounds like a good matchup of gun to the task.
Encourage her to practice somewhat regularly and I'm sure the Taurus will serve her well.

thanks guys. they always looked pretty nice. i was trying to get her to buy a taurus 22 or 22 mag. we saw one when we went to a local gun shop and it looked nice and solid, plus she was pretty recoil shy being new to shooting. but her friends down there talked her into something a little more powerful so hopefully she'll practice so she can get used to it. i think she wants it more for peace of mind, just knowing its there.
