TALO "Blackbird" Single Six Convertible Birdshead

Just heard that Talo is coming out with a new limited run of 22lr/22mag Single Sixes. They are identical to the previous run of 450 Convertible Birdsheads with Ivory grips, except these will have Black Micarta grips. They're apparently calling these "Blackbirds" and the run will be limited to 650 guns. Anybody heard about these? Here's a link that I found after I heard about them:

Not from what I've seen. I know of one dealer taking pre-orders for them and his price is $519.00.

Nope. No idea. Hopefully it will be a New Vaquero Birdshead Sheriff's Model, but I'm afraid that's just wishful thinking.

Well that should make the ones who missed out the first time happy.
I would like to see them offer this model with a standard SS single-six
grip frame, theres no doubt they would sell. Time will tell.

Ruger needs to stop trying to cram the keylock down everybody's throats. That's why the BH grip frames have been rare - can't fit the lock in there.

Actually, Ruger's been quite good about not cramming the key lock down everybody's throats. They came out in 2004 and are still not installed in any of the birdshead models (as mentioned) nor any of the blued models (except for the flattops) or Bisley models.

The Bird's Head grip frame was basically killed off by Ruger because it couldn't accept a keylock inside. It has come back in a few rare special runs but...it's otherwise vanished.

It has also appeared in blue models - every NewVaq has one, blue or stainless.

My fault JimMarch1....it is all the stainless models that the interlock does not appear in. Yes, they are in the stainless New Vaquero and the stainless TALO .44 SPL flattop, but thats it. So...Ruger is not cramming the interlock down everybody's throats.
Again...Ruger's SA interlock has been around since 2004, and it still does not appear in the stainless Super Blackhawk, stainless adj. sight Blackhawks or stainless Single-Sixes.
If Ruger was that interested in changing everything to interlock, they'd have done it on all their stainless guns several years ago.
So...this is not what has killed the birdshead grip frame with Ruger. The lack of demand for birdshead grip frame models did that.

This is 22lr only, 4 5\8 barrell, full stainless, with bisley hammer, trigger, etc. Has scrolled "Ruger Bisley Model" in cylinder. Also has almost flush cylinder pin. A real beauty. What I can find indicates a Davisdon's model, manufacture year 1999, serial # 268-20531. This has the warning info stamped on the barrell. I found that Ruger made about 950 of these for Davidson's, but these had the standard bisley frame, not the birdshead like mine. So it this a rare gun,, would like to know more,, value, how many made, etc.

Someone might come along and correct me, but I think the only rimfire with a birdshead grip that Ruger ever produced was the Talo run of "whitebirds", and the subsequent run of "blackbirds". Both of these models had 3.75" barrels, standard hammers (not bisley), and a high gloss stainless finish. The first run (450 guns if I remember correctly) was released with white grips (which were prone to breaking...Ruger sent me a free set when mine cracked), and the second run (650 this time) had black polymer grips. Both models included both a fluted .22 LR cylinder and an unfluted .22 mag cylinder. I had one of each model, and ended up selling them both. I've been regretting it ever since.

It sounds like your gun is what would be considered a "frankenruger".....I think that it originally had a bisley grip frame, which was later switched to a birdshead grip frame. The only modification that would have been required to do this would be to remove the "bisley hump" from the hammer. The birdshead gripframe should drop right in with only minor fitting required (if any).

It would be a neat gun to see if you'd be willing to post a picture.
