Last week I bought a SBH with the 4.6" barrel in STAINLESS STEEL, sweet gun, put 75 rounds thru it, really a nice gun. I do not like the XR3RED grip frame so I want to swap it out for the DRAGOON frame like on my other SBHs. Is Ruger going to give me grief when I order one seeing as how it did not come with it? I have purchased other parts without any problem. I have a gunsmith that will fit it. I will get new grips from Hogue, GUNFIGHTER to be exact. thanks Jerry

Jerry, New Model regular steel Dragoon grip frames get offered in our classified section fairly often. You can also post a wanted add there. Swapping the grips frames is a mighty easy DIY job, usually only requiring a good fitting screwdriver.

John is right swapping a 'USED' dragoon grip frame is pretty simple with only mimimum fitting (if any) like the 'ears' around the hammer to be flush with hammer and to match the frame height. And cheaper than new which runs about $105 from Brownells, much simpler to order from (You can Order on-line) and faster shipping than Ruger.

I'd suggest that you look for a HUNTER grip frame...unfortunately not very easy to find! Like you, I find the XR3-red grip frame d*** near useless since my hands are medium-to-large. You COULD try EAGLE GRIPS Gunfighter model replacement grips...they have flat bottoms and extend the XR3-red enough to be usable..just not as comfortable as the other options.

Another idea is to convert to BISLEY configuration, but the parts are hard to come by also.

There ain't no flies on the DRAGOON grip frame. I've used it for years and have it on several guns...the ones that don't have HUNTERS or are BISLEYS.

I need the room behind the trigger guard so just getting the Eagle grips may not work. I don't get bit by the square edge on the Dragoon frame so it is fine. Midway is backorder only 10/2/12. I will give Ruger a call and see what they say. I saw on a different site that some people have ordered parts from Ruger, cards charged and no parts yet, hmmm. I looked in the RugerForum.com Classifieds section but did not see anything. I'm not in a hurry anyway. thanks guys, Jerry

I just called RUGER. Something ain't right. I got a recording that the business office is closed, I pressed 2 on the key pad and got a 2nd recording saying leave a message. Any one know what is going on? thanks Jerry

It's much easier to deal with Brownell's by phone or on-line. The price will be the same as Ruger.

Stainless steel SBH dragoon grip frame $127.00. Brownell's Ph: 800-741-0015, part #780-000-528AD & Ruger # KMR00300.

I had checked Midway and they are B/O till October. I have purchased from Brownells in the past, I'll also have to get the 3 pins associated with the frame. I just checked Brownells and they are B/O also. thanks Jerry

A few months back I bought some Gun Fighter grips from Hogue for one of my other SBHs and really like them. They fill my hand better than Ruger grips. I have taken the grips from the SS 4.6" SBH and have put them on my Single 10, now that is a good feeling gun. Tomorrow I'll work on getting the parts.

Go to eaglegrips.com and look at THEIR Gunfighter model. Every grip maker has his proprietary version of GUNFIGHTER GRIPS and they definitely didn't clone the other guys product!
