I have a 7.5" 44 mag SBH with a square trigger guard. I have a problem with the stock grips, my off-hand finger getting hit by the back of the square trigger guard. I do have a set of rubber grips that fill in that area but would like some that are wood.

Any suggestions that might work?

I can tell you what I do with mine:

If it's your off hand index finger that's getting banged, hook it around the front of the trigger guard. If it's your 2nd finger, put a round guard Super BH Hunter grip frame on it.

I am aware of two wood grips that fill in the area occupied by a grip adapter, Herrett Shooting Stars and Hogue's Monogrip. While used Hogue Monogrips are uncommon used Herrett Shooting Stars are fairly common. Both are still available new. Both distort the plow handle's shape so much that some traditionalists including this forum's moderator do not want to be seen in a county where a set is rumored to be. However, grip choice is strictly personal and at least they are traditional wood.

I like Hondo44's idea of switching to a Hunter gripframe but that is a lot more expensive than buying new grips.

Yea I think my middle finger is permitely swollen from this. But I don't think it matters if it's a square or round grip frame they both do it to me shooting full power loads. Now I have noticed IMO that a Birdshead grip frame with full power stuff seems to roll downward in my hand and doesn't bite the middle finger as bad.
Someone suggested I get shooting gloves which I did.

Shooting gloves help quite a bit. I am right handed so I wear a baseball batting glove on my left hand. That left the one for the right hand unused so it became my shooting glove.

I doubt this is any help as I tend to adjust to each firearm differently.
In the case of the SBH this is close to what I do even if it's considered incorrect and actually it the most comfortable one I shoot. Never had issues with the square guard beating me up.
The left index finger slightly in front of the trigger guard. Acts somewhat as an anchor point.
The left middle finger has the guard resting on it and its fingertip is locked between the knuckles of the right middle and ring finger.
The left ring fingertip is locked between the knuckles of the right ring and pinky finger.
The left pinky fingertip rests below the knuckle of the right pinky finger.
The left thumb anchors the right thumb, both relocate when cocking the hammer.
A portion of the left palm supports the bottom of the left grip and most of the bottom of the frame.
The picture also shows I've got too much grip with my right hand.

I found that Altmount grips (think that is the spelling) makes a grip that might work for $42. I order a set in Rosewood and hoping that they will be here next week.
