I recently saw an old model 3-screw Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 magnum serial prefix 80- with an unusual front sight, and I am wondering if it is factory or custom?

The top of the ramp front sight has been slotted longitudinally and a small diameter (1/64"?) red fiber inserted. The two sides of the slotted sight have been slightly squeezed together to contain the fiber optic.

Did Ruger perform this at the factory, or did someone decide that he needed a fiber optic front sight later on? It does shine against a dark background if it can get some light.

Just curious.

H.H. hipshot.... contender has you covered.

There were a few filed sights on "Silhouette Super" New Model Super Blackhawks, and some early "old model" .357 Blackhawks had a wavy pattern on the ramp front sight. Otherwise, I defer to the real experts around here.

Its definitely not factory work, but the sight job certainly appears practical.
