I know the situation in California is dire and I do hope you get rain and SNOW this winter, BUT the rain NOT in the usual fashion of So-Cal where it rains for 30 days in a row and then not for the rest of the year !!

Pamela, what you've probably been watching on the news seems to be quite localized, at least so far! I-5 took a beating up toward Castaic with a huge mudslide that closed both sides (4 lanes each) but they had all four northbound lanes plus two s/b open this afternoon, and were working straight thru to clear the other two s/b lanes a few hours ago.

Then there's the high desert: I think the Palmdale area was hit fairly hard, and I know 29 Palms got a lot of water over the last two days. A fellow down the street has a home there, where his wife stays full time. His 107+ year old Dad lives close to me, so he spends 3-4 days here with Dad, then heads back out there for the rest of the week. I saw him a couple of hours ago and he said his wife figured they'd had close to 4 inches over 48 hours. I may be going out there tomorrow, so fingers are crossed it's wearing itself out!

We had huge thunderheads building up over the mountains this afternoon, but only got about five drops down the hill! Haven't heard any bad stories from up there yet. If your brother's still in GG, he's probably doing fine. Are the nieces in the same general area? If so, they're probably ok, too.

This has been a strange storm: warm, tropical in fact, lots of thunder and lightning, much more like we'd expect during "monsoon season" as the TV folks like to call late July thru August. But as I said before, it's dry as a bone in my neighborhood. Hey, it's SoCal! Nothing unusual about that... ;)

Yeah, I KNOW SoCal lived out there from 1960 until 1979. My brother and one niece are in GG the others live up around Fresno ( I think) .
I-5 is FOUR LANES in each direction around Castaic ?? Dang, I seem to recall it was only 3 lanes back in'79. Use to have a Grandma-in-law and aunt-in-law that lived out around 29 Palms; BOTH long gone now.

We had ice on the birdbath this morning. I love it !!! Winter is great as it keeps out all the riffraff who go South. ...the sooner the better.

Sorry you dislike us Northerners so much Pam. I lived in the south for twenty years and never developed that attitude. Course all Summer long we have all those Southerners up here on our lakes and crowding our resorts. We like to think of it as "Revenue".

Still I remember more folks practiced Southern Hospitality when I lived there.

BTW. we're coming down there this Winter. See you soon. :D

I find the length of time that I cannot ride my motorcycle here during winter is about the same amount of time I couldn't enjoy riding in the summer in Texas............I figure that I have at least another month of decent weather before the bike goes under a cover in the garage. Then its about four months before I can start enjoying the outdoors again.

The only issue I see here is that you ain't ridin the correct motorcycle. I (and many more like me) ride year round...... Snow? :lol: :lol: :lol: We like the snow.... 8) .....always fun to see the faces of the folks wearing all the HD clothing as I am pulling in or driving away in a snow/ice storm.
