Sturdy Outdoor Table

...so my wife and I needed a new table on the back patio for potting plants and doing other assorted chores. What we had before was falling apart. After looking at the box stores and online I could not find anything that was sturdy and reasonably priced. I decided a do-it-yourself project was just the thing. I got some plans online, changed them some to suit my needs, and preceded to build a potting table for my wife, before Mother's Day last month, using common 2x4's and 2x6's and some 1/2" exterior plywood. I think I nailed it. (screws really) Couple of days work, some stain and polyurethane and a couple of days to dry....DONE. I was going to put sides and doors on the front but decided to leave them off and save buying another sheet of plywood. What do you think?

Here you go. I changed a few things like 1/2" plywood for the bottom and middle shelf, a few dimensions slightly and I put 2x6's together for the top. I would also suggest slightly better than construction grade wood to get rid of the warps and big knots.

Very nice! Are you sure you want to get dirt and fertilizer and water all over it? Seems too fine a piece of furniture for field work.

What was the final cost of materials?

That really is nice; I like it! You can clean your fish on it and scrape the innards into the pots for fertilizer. That will make your wife even happier!

Pretty classy outdoor potting table. If you make utilitarian work like that, you are going to have to make some pretty fancy indoor furniture.

Very nice, what sort of varnish did you use? I have an outdoor table, and last year I used teak oil but had to keep putting on new coats every couple of weeks. This year I switched to outdoor spar urethane varnish. It's supposed to be good for outdoors. After a few coats, it is indeed holding up nicer.

But you did do very well on the design. Looks great!
