Not having ever owned a Ruger semi auto before I have a question. Will a P-85 mag work in my P-95? The boss had one laying around the shop and said I could have it if I wanted it .We both thought it was an aftermarket P-95 mag .I brought it home and found that it's an aftermarket P-85 mag. It seemed to hand cycle all but the last round .Is it just a weak spring maybe or or will the mag just not work? The mag is marked Ruger P-85 on the right hand side of the mag body ,but doesn't have the ruger emblem on the floorplate like the P-95 mags I have .
And whats the diffrence it the two guns?
Thanks,
Lou

i own both weapons-mags are interchangable. if it an old mag it may need a new spring. i would check wolffs gunsprings for extra power springs. they work.

Because you don't really know who made the mag you have I would just use it atthe range and if the last round doesn't work right who cares.

If you want to post a picture "we" may be able to identify for you. The foot of the mag is a big help in this.

Good luck,

Thanks for the info guys .I thought they took the same mags .I'll try to remember to take a pic of it tomorrow at work as I can't upload pics to my home computer anymore .Like I said I was just hand cycling thr rounds through it ,it may be fine when shooting the gun .Just gotta get to the range .I've gotta do an aromers inspection, detailed cleaning and testfiring on one if the Dupuites M-16's this weekend so I'll just take it with me then.
Man those M-16's are museum peicse anyway their M-16's not even A1's[thin barrel and no foward assist] ,but the Captian wanted selective fire guns so he got these things .From what I've head with the ammo their being issued ,Remingtion .223 62gr match H.P.'s there all having jaming problems in both semi and full auto .I looked to it the other day and the gas rings looked and felt real loose to me but the gun was super dirty too so who knows .They need to be feeding them M108 .556 55gr ball to start with instead of the .223 match stuff but they got what they got .I'll go through the gun and see if a good cleaning will fix the jaming problem ,but after looking over the rifle it's seen better days .

Technically they are different mags if a Ruger mag. The model for a p85 is different than a p95.

Like I said it's an aftermarket mag .It locks in place solid and feeds all but the last round .If it works that way when firing the gun I'll stilll use it as a carry mag I have 4 ruger mags for the gun anyway and if I burn through all 4 ruger mags in a firefight and still have one that will feed all but the last round still so much the better. On the rreal side if you burn through 61 rounds and still have a problem I really don't think you can solve it with the 14 rounds the aftermarket mag will feed .
Again this gun is for my sister in law .It's the only full sised gun she likes and besides unless it's a S.H.T.F. situation you'll never need that many rounds anyway .It is her night stand gun .I'll pick up another ruger mag for the gun anyway .All of my tac vest are set up the same way 10 30 rounders for the M-4's and 5 for the handguns so any one of us can grab any of the vest in a bug out senerio and everything is in the same place on the vest .

I think you figured it out Lou.... it's just another mag.... last round not feeding is probably because the spring is getting old... I would not rely on it but it sure will work at the range.... and you are right about the 61.....

Kind of reminds me of the black bear question.... "will a 9mm stop a black bear?" My answer is, "Don't know if one will or not, but I bet 16 will at least turn it around....."
