Hey folks, I told yall about the plumbing in my house springing a leak back in the first weekend in Oct, and still waiting on my insurance company to get their crap together. That first week they sent Stanley Steamer out to look over the damage, but they said an adjuster had to come out to O.K. them doing their thing. Out this guy comes and after he screwed up his appointment time he looks around, takes pics and says they will be in touch . . In the mean time Stanley Steamer comes back to the house and tells me that they can't do the job that a company called Paul Davis needs to do the work incase of mold , so out they come . Now this has taken a week but they come out , Paul Davis that is and do their thing inspecting the damage and tell me they can handle it , but it will be the first of the week before they have the drying equipment together ,as it's on other jobs .
They show up the next Monday and they bring this plumber along with them who rips my one piece tub out and destroys the tub, surround and dry wall while doing it and then the P.D. people rip out my carpet in the hallway, the linoleum foyer and bath room and set their equipment in place.
Now 4 days of these high pressure fans, dehumidifiers and air scrubbers running 24/7.

They come out and finish their job and tell me they will tell my insurance company that their job is done and that then we can go from there.
I have a renovation contractor come out and do his thing and he sends my insurance co. his estimate. He does, yet I have yet to hear from my insurance Co.. .
3 weeks in I contact them and get a recording and leave a message telling the adjuster to call me A.S.A.P..
I don't hear from this guy till the following Monday and he tells me they've already cut a check just based on what Stanly Steamer would have cost if they had dried out the carpet!!!.
I call this guy back and tell him Paul Davis ripped out the carpet, vinyl flooring tub and pluming and that my contractor had sent him his estimate, then he finds my contractors E-Mail and tells me that it seams high to him and that he needs to send another adjuster out to meet with my contractor and come to some sort of agreement on his price. I say fine , I need this done A.S.A.P. .This was a week ago yesterday and he assured me that HE would have a field adjuster call me with in 20 minutes of hanging up the phone .
Again this was last Thursday about 14;00 , well that evening no call. All day Friday no call . I call him Monday and get his frickin recording again and tell him I'm pissed and to call me NOW!!!!! Tuesday this week the field adjuster calls me and tells me that he just got assigned the job that morning , but it would be 17;00 Monday next week before he could be here and tells me to call my contractor to meet with him here at the house.

I nearly flipped out on this guy, I told him it's not my job to coordinate meetings between adjusters and contractors and I had no idea what the contractors schedule looked like and that that was his job .
His defense was that he will have to come all the way from Lynchburg, Va [ a couple hours from here] and that Monday at 17;00 was all he had open. I told this guy that ain't my problem, it's yours, your the one that needs to meet with the contractor on sight , it's up to you to arrange that and that it had best be Monday even if you have to change your days around to make it here. I don't think it will be a problem with my contractor, he's ready to rock on this . This is getting ridiculous.

I,ve talked with my contractor and he hasn't heard from him as of yet, but we've already picked out a tub faucet, paint and flooring everything we need to fix my house .
I'll be on the phone with the insurance Co. first thing in the morning and they had damn well better have their s@#$ together on this or I'll be on the phone with the Better Business Bureau , 12 on your side, a local T.V. station that reports crap like this and anybody else that will listen .

5 weeks and still NO SHOWER in my house , running to friends to take one and my house is still torn up , man I'm pissed off about this .
My contractor was ready to move 2 weeks ago and the insurance had repeatedly dropped the ball , by the way the insurance company is Liberty Mutual and in the past with 2 claims on our car have been great, fast all the things you pay for , but they have sure screwed the pooch on this one .

So it will be at the very least Monday next week before the adjuster gets here and another week or so be for I get a tub and shower back in the house .

This thing has me so balled up I don't even feel like hunting ,I wanna kill something, but it AIN'T NO DEER .
Goin nuts

If you do not have a digital camera . . . BUY ONE. Take pictures of EVERYTHING
before AND after. I'm in the middle of a wet-cleanup/reconstruction and I
am being billed (thus far) for three thousand dollars work(?) that didn't
happen. Fortunately, I did take pictures of quite a bit of it and that is helping
a whole lot!

If you have a "smart phone" many of them have video capability. USE IT!
I was able to kill some charges simply by showing non-stop(!) video of my
basement, starting at the top of the stairs and going down, then moving
around the entire area.

Keep in mind that the guys giving me problems were recommended by BBB.
TRUST ME, the BBB is going to have a detailed accounting of why I do not
think this contractor should have BBB endorsement.

Good luck, and may you not need it.

Sounds like so much stuff you hear nowadays where costs (to customers) increase while service suffers. Hope it works out;I'd be very angry too.

It seems that if the damage was that bad, the insurance company should have hired a general contractor to coordinate the repair. By cutting out the GC they save money and put the aggravation on you.
Ditto the video and photo documentation.

Hey folks thanks for all the well wishes and advice and as far as my contractor goes we've been friends for over 35 years and I know is going to take care of me. So I don't have any problems there I spoke with the guy at Liberty Mutual today I was nice it wasn't easy but I was nice and I told him that his field adjuster has still not contacted my contractor.
He told me he would send me an email approving the installation of the tub plumbing and all the things that go with it.
I told him that he needed to send my contractor an email to. He tells me no he'll just send me one and I can forward it to my contractor.
I told him ain't my circus, aint my monkies, YOU send an email to me and my contractor so that we both have a copy but I wasn't forwarding anything to anybody so as it stands right now we,ve got the go ahead on the plumbing and tub, not that thats going to happen this weekend but that they will be meeting out here Monday afternoon to do whatever it is they need to do between themselves. I know my contractor friend is going to take good care of me and he does excellent work he is a very small company but he prides himself on his jobs so work will be good it's just a matter of getting going.
Now the only question is when he can get his guys out here and get started installing the tub and the plumbing and then we'll worry about the carpets and linoleum and all the other things the trim sheetrock painting and apparently everything is going to be ok with his estimate but my biggest worry was just getting the tub in once that's taken care of the rest is all gravy.
Even though it's taking a long time looks like we'll be up and running in a couple weeks just getting the tub in is all I'm worried about and hopefully can he can get his guys over here early next week to get that done I'll keep you updated.
Your Friend,
Lou
