Star stamped on frame

Guys I need help....O.K. that 's another story. But I am trying to remember why Ruger stamped a five point star on their revolver frames. I looked in my books and can't seem to find any info. :?: :?:

Chads book has the answer, It means it was shipped as a 22 long rifle single cylinder only gun.

Yep, what Steve said. It was a New Model 22 marking that was used starting at the introduction of the NMs thru the mid '70s. Later another mark that looked like a little house or arrow was used.

The star stamped guns were only made in 1975. And not all guns made that year were star guns, most were convertibles.

And in 1974 when I bought mine new.

Checking serial numbers with RENE you are right. It seems that production started in late 74 and carried into 1975.

Whats the barrel length, some are more collectible due to there limited production runs.

Rarest guns in blue are the S4, S9,,,same for the SS guns KS4 and KS9.

That's an awesome accomplishment and that S4, one of only 12 known!

I bought my NR4 62-29675 a little bit too early to be a single cyl model. And my KS4 63-30100 was almost too late, just 21 numbers from the last single cyl produced.

No gun in mind, just couldn't remember why the star, THANX....I am a member of RENE and RCA..

The asterisk or crow's foot was only used as a stamping to denote a used gun, either as a prefix or suffix to the serial number.
Ruger decided to use the asterisk instead of the U because I think they got tired of people asking about their "used" guns....and were they really "used" if they were being sold by the factory as "new"?
When I went to the factory in 1991 I asked my tour guide about their "used" guns and he said rather bluntly, "We don't sell USED guns!". Well, guess he didn't know the secret of their "S" and "U" marked guns had been out for quite some time before that!
