Standard Auto ejection port shape - affect function?

Does the squared ejection port shape on the early standard autos affect functioning in any way? I like it from an aesthetic point of view. It seems like Ruger would only have changed it for improved functioning or some manufacturing reason, maybe related to tooling.

Regards,
Dave

Never heard of any ejection problems associated with the square port. Seems Ruger probably did change it for aesthetics. Always thinking WBR was.

Thanks for the reply. On pistols with the squared ejection port, is the barrels breach face flush with the front edge of the ejection port? Or is there a recess? I'm curious if the ports are the same length at the center line, or if the curved port is actually longer.

Thanks again,
Dave

not that much of an "issue" with the smaller, 22 rimfire cases, but always done in larger frame semi auto,s ala 45 acp so the case actaully "clears" the port, so they lower them, and dish them to the rear, a common "custom" seen for many years....yes, the 22 case may hit the edge and bounce 'funny', so would NOT surprise us they did it for a reason, ,why "add" another step to the process, they are always looking to reduce "steps" in manufacturing, so I'd bet thats the reason, plain and simple ease of ejection...............

Dan, thanks for your response. You often refer to "we" and "us." It's got me wondering just who y'all are?

Ruger may have also found it to be an easier machining process to shape the ports differently, by also making them more "functional" at the same time (for ejection). They did the same thing by changing the milling on the bottom of the receivers at about 40xx.
