I saw that the ss Bisley flattops in single calibers are a LOT less $$ than the PPP.

Has anyone picked one up yet to make comments on?

Picked one up yet? Some calibers have been out for 12-15 years depending on the caliber.

Where is your pricing coming from? The PPP has a Retail of $1150 with the custom grips. Then comparing to others that have been around is comparing retail on one to street price on the others. So if/when it becomes apples to apples the PPP might be just $80 - $100 more to account for the custom walnut grips.

I haven't seen new stainless production in .38 and .44 special till recently, then again I haven't followed new Rugers either since the 80's and the last I saw the single calibers they can be had for around $200-$300 less than the Perfect Packin Pistol on Gun Broker. I got the .44 for $749 ++ NIB

And what is the current retail on the 44? ^^^. That's the apples to apples comparison, not what you were able to get it for.

Added. besides the mentioned custom grips, the JT also seems to come with an extra cyl. Prices add up.

I "thought" I wrote the price I paid in #5 above so I guess that is current?

I think that the grips are not worth a fifty dollar bill to me, and I don't want another cylinder but YMMV.

Trying to convey the reasons for the 2 guns differences in MSRP. The price you paid is irrelevant to the MSRP. Another dealer might have one for 30 less, got to next store & that place might be 50 more.,

My mileage may may vary has nothing to do with it as I'm not after either.

I picked up a ppp from Kjergaard sports, through g-broker, $960 with shipping. It has .007" gap, sides of hammer are all scratched up due to burrs in hammer slot. Action feels like it's full of sand when you cock it.

Another was $999 from a local dealer. Not really much more than a SS FLATTOP 44 special, which I have two of.

The build quality of all four is terrible, and each needs serious remediation. Ronnie Wells is working over one of my PPP's, and adding an aluminum bisley PJ Junior grip frame. Another smith is tightening up the 44spls, and both are also getting Ronnie wells aluminum bisleys. Ruger is really crapping the bed lately with the quality of their stainless Bisley flattops. The quality of the 41 mags is no better. If you buy any of them, look for the best price, and be ready to have them fixed.

My .44 special came in and considering the issues others have had with theirs, this one is pretty good.

The metal work is pretty clean with a small buffing mark on the top strap that is easily dealt with, and there are no tool chatter marks in the throat or in the cylinder opening. The cylinder gap is .0045, trigger has just a bit of creep and surprisingly breaks at only 2 3/4 pounds, end shake is minimal as is play in cylinder lockup and the bore is cleanly rifled. The grip fit is typical Ruger but better than some, they will not hurt me so they're unlikely to be replaced.

Unlike some I've seen, the ejector rod activation is smooth as is the base pin removal / replacement. I don't have special tools like pin gauges. I feel it really needs nothing and overall I'm very happy with it.

I agree w/71, some luck there. Sounds like you have very good one, showing Ruger is capable. But you asking how others are is a tricky question if I'm being perfectly honest.
It's simply like rolling the dice with some BH's these days. Not trying to be mean or even negative. The reality of it is a well known fact.

I picked up a "used" but unfired .44 Special Bisley FT yesterday for $627 out the door. The fit and finish are as good as any other handguns that I own. With all the complaints about QC lately I was really impressed that it was so well executed.
I think that you and I are NOT alone.
