Sr9c Question

Hi guys, New to the forum I had recently purchased an Sr9c and love but I have a question. I have put close to 300+ rounds through flawlessly but noticed something that didn't look quite right. This is my first real semi pistol so I am just wondering if this is normal wear or if I may have an issue and need to contact Ruger about it.

I own a SR9 (500 rds) and a SR40C (300 rds) and neather show that kind of wear

I have something similar, very small, but obvious.

The wear seems to be where that part of the barrel bumps against the front edge of the ejection port, yes? Looks like the barrel doesn't tilt down fast enough to get out of the way during cycle. If you look inside the slide at that front inside edge of the port, you should see a place where the barrel makes contact.

I have around 200 round count, flawless so far so not concerned...yet. I wonder if the front edge of the port could be beveled slightly with a file to make a ramp for the barrel to slide freely?

I have the same marks/peening on my SR9c. I don’t know if I would have noticed it if I hadn’t been looking after reading others posts about it. I had about 400 rounds through when I first noticed. I took pictures of the marks then looked again after another 400 and I’m not sure they are any worse; if they are it’s minimal. The gun functions perfectly so I’m going to keep an eye on it every time I clean the gun and if they get to the point that they affect the function (or start looking much worse) I’ll get a trusted gunsmiths advice or send it back to Ruger rather than take a file or crocus cloth to them myself.

I have a small amount on mine that stabilized at around 400-500 rounds, with is what I consider the break-in period for a new pistol.

I dressed the edge with a stone. Now I am at 5000 rds and finctioning just fine.

Some folks got very upset or disappointed over this.

I just ran another 100 rds through flawlessly this morning. I was checking to see if it was getting worse and it seemed to be fine. I also emailed ruger to be safe last night so I will see their response. While at the range I checked some of their SR's and it looked like 2 out of the 4 had that wear. Of course to a lesser degree. These were the floor models and haven't been fired just handled. So I guess its common. Thanks for everybody's help and input. I will run a search on peening also to see what has been said about it.

I had some minor peening during the break in period. I just did some grinding with a Dremel Tool. I now have 1200 rounds through my SR9c and haven't had any issues since.

Looks like pretty typical wear in IMO. Take a small file and remove any excess or sharp edge and keep an eye on it. Chances are it will get no worse.

I agree. I had a similar issue with mine. Filed it lightly and additional wear never showed up.

I have 150 rounds through mine and can't see even the beginning of that kind of wear, heck I can't even see normal marks from the slide cycling. Now, I am careful on all my autloaders to keep this area lubed up well. It wouldn't hurt to contact Ruger and let them know about it, you might just get some new parts for free. If not, I would maybe smooth the area with a fine file and keep an eye on it.

I wonder: why does it seem none of the P-series ever showed peening on the barrel?

Just a quick update, After sending them some more pics, Ruger asked for me to send it to them for examination and repair.

Mine had a very small amount of peening at first. Then I polished it and hasnt done it any more.

Mine looks a bit worn where you're having issues, but doesn't seem to be getting any more noticeable. If it gets worse, I hear Ruger offers great customer service.
