Just got back from the range and had this only happen with both 10rd mags. The 17rd worked just fine. After the last shot the slide would not stay open. Do you know what would cause this and how I can fix this? Thanks!

i had this problem at the range session before last....
i took my sr9 to the indoor range i frequent and it wouldn't stay locked on the last round; that was about about 3 weeks ago.

i took the same gun, didnt clean it between sessions, and shot it at the local outdoor range this past weekend, yesterday, and didnt have a single problem

i still havent figured it out...

if you find out what is going on, let me know, keep us posted...

I would guess that the poster is talking about an SR9C and not an SR9.
The 10 round vs. the 17, I think that gives it away. Maybe not. It really doesn't matter because it happens with many pistols.
When shifting a grip during firing it is very easy to almost drop the mag with the release but hold it in place with a two hand hold. It will be high enough to feed but it's not up enough to lock the slide back.

It's also pretty easy to have your thumb rest on the slide lock lever and keep it from moving up to lock the slide.

When I purchased the SR9 all I could find was the one with two 10rd mags. Had to by the 17rd latter. While it could be my grip, I would doubt that because it has never happened with the 17rd. Thanks for the help.

Cleaned the mags, so now I need to get back to the range. Hopefully that I solved the issue.

Remove magazine, unload magazine. Unload pistol and lock slide back with pressure upward on slide lock lever. Reinsert empty magazine(s). Release slide.

Now, with the pistol in that condition, try slingshotting the slide and releasing it several times. Each time, the slide should lock back when you pull it back. The magazine follower is what pushes up on the slide lock lever to lock the slide back and it should happen reliably, every single time, when the magazine is empty.

Remember while you're doing this: don't use the slide lock button as a "release" - pull backward on the slide while pushing it. The slide lock button on an SR9 is not and was never intended to be a 24/7/365 "slide release lever".

However, in the condition above with the magazine empty and inserted and manually racking the slide it should lock back EVERY time with absolutely no troubles.

If the slide doesn't lock back every single time when you're slingshotting it with an empty magazine, there is something wrong. It could be the magazine follower!!!! If the magazine follower doesn't come all the way up "home" it won't reliably engage the slide lock and you can have problems. If so, disassemble and clean your magazine(s) and try again. Also follow other people's suggestions about clean/lube on the lock button/assy. itself.

perhaps the loads are light and the slide isn't going all the way back. Far enough to catch the rim of the next bullet in the mag, but not far enough back for the magazine follower to engage with the slide lock?

not an SR9 owner,
