SR9 Questions

I am buying a SR9 next week but my buddies tell me not to. I eventually wanna shoot some competition with them and they say sr9 isnt a good choice due to malfunctions and you dont see a lot of people using it and most ppl shoot glocks, sigs and 1911's. Does anyone use the sr9 to shoot competition and is it reliable enough to use in competition?

your friends are just jumping on the anti ruger band wagon. a lot fo the older P series pistols had QC problems and the LCP has had issues as well. the SR9 had a trigger recall shortly after being released but since then I have not heard a single bad thing about it other than the full sized SR9 now has a gritty trigger. I know a lot of guys that hated the SR9 trigger still love the trigger on the SR9C and SR40 models. I dont know if the brand new full sized 9mms have fixed the issue as well but that's one thing to take into account. in some cases I've heard that the mag disconnect caused some minor issues but a lot of shooters pull it out immediately after purchasing so it's not really an issue for most. your main issue if you want to shoot competitively is that trigger. other than that, the SR9 will have no issues whatsoever and will serve you just as well as any sig or glock if all you're shooting in is local shood-um-ups.

Just make sure the SR9 you get has a serial number that starts 331 or higher.

I have been shooting U S P S A for over Ten Years with a Glock and a 1911 Kimber with adds .... I just don't get it the SR 9 is just as good as Glock and 1911 guns all your Buddy's would have to do is shoot one . DD

Get one with the D shaped mag release button, it's the latest version.

Been shooting my SR9 in IDPA since I got it a few years ago. Only malfunctions (3 total that I can recall) were either from ammo issues or user error.

Michael Bane recently shot the IDPA World Championship (27 frickin' stages) with no malfunctions.

Your buddies are talking out of their a**es.

I don't shoot competitions, but I've never had any malfunctions. The SR9 is a great gun. Do make sure it has the "D" shaped mag release though, it'll be the most recent model.

Your buddies just don't like Rugers, get one to spite them :twisted:

Find egalloway, I believe that's his handle. He's on here pretty regularly and he shoots SR in comp. Don't know what division or anything. Ask him about how his 'ol plastic SR just keeps on going after rounds and rounds in the dust and mud while high-dollar "match grade" guns are jamming and overheating... I shoot every other wednesday at my local gun club. it's a modified IPSC (not nearly as strict basically and they'll let you shoot anything - its more to get people out and engaged in shooting).

I do it with my SR40. Ton of fun and I do just fine (my biggest problem is ME, not the gun )
