Sat in my safe, too long, unfired.

Finally put a whole bunch of rounds thru it. This thing runs absolutely flawlessly! :D :D :D

More than that, it is extremely accurate. Our targets are an assortment of paper targets, steel clangers and "natural" targets, out to 160 yards.

Using only the factory supplied Troy Industries Battle Sights, and shooting from picnic tables, with just an improvised forend rest, this gun just will not miss. Even with two of us shooting this gun, the results are just plain excellent.

I am extremely impressed, and extremely pleased.

The guy I was shooting with is a dyed-in-the-wool AR person, and he's already wanting one of these rifles.

His only question, and I'm hoping some folks will chime in here, do all of these SR556's shoot this good?

Wow! Very nice! I'm glad to hear it shoots so well! I'll let you shoot my LC9 if you let me shoot that nice little century-556!

(I'm assuming this came from Wyoming.... at some point early on....)

The SR556 in 5.56 is the most accurate 5.56 I've ever owned. That plus flawless functioning are great reasons to buy one. On the downside, it's also the heaviest 5.56 I've ever owned by quite a bit.
 
In my opinion, they all shoot accurately and they're the best value around.
 
I am extremely pleased with the reliability of this rifle. I've recently purchased the CMMG evolution .22 conversion for my 556 and put over 500 rounds of 22s through it in one day at the range and around 100 of 223. Not once did it foul!! It was one dirty sob!

Let me bring back this thread...yes - very good rifle and I have video too!

No issues and groups great with its heavy barrel and my little chip McCormick trigger work.

I jumped on the SR556 bandwagon early on and I like mine much. I can only agree what the others have said, highly accurate but heavy. I was also quite happy that the trigger group is good enough that I don't have any plans on changing it out.

I love mine. I don't know if it's heavy for an AR since it's the only one I have owned or shot.
 
I love this rifle. It's just buttery smooth, an absolute blast to shoot. I recommend this to everyone I talk to.
 
I have been looking at the E model w/o all the bells and whistles. I have a Les Baer that is way more accurate than I am, so now I want another AR for fun plinking that is lighter. I may have to sell my NRA Mini and get one. Be nice having the same magazines for both guns.
 
I've only had my new SR556FB for a couple of weeks. I got to the range once with it. I had to shoot with the iron sights as my scope riser hadn't yet arrived. Extremely accurate at 50 yards with the iron sights.

Best of all was how clean everything was when I got back and took the gun down for cleaning. Way cleaner than my old Colt DI AR was after a day at the range. I really like the gas piston setup. I like the Magpul mags too.

My riser finally got here and I now have my scope mounted. Time to get to the range again and see if I can stretch out the yardage. I got some rail ladders too. They help a bit on the foregrip

This is far and away the best AR15 I've ever shot with. It wasn't cheap and I really had to suck it up to go down to my LGS and finally buy it, but now I'm glad I did it. Next I want to start adding some goodies. I think a vertical foregrip is next.

Here's another vid, I hung the camera on some chicken wire screen the range had setup to prevent rounds from hitting your neighbor. Mine had a small hole in it so I took advantage of it for a different camera perspective.

Check out the guy in the back with the RRA, not saying all RRAs are bad but his had some issue this time - haha.

Just got 2 SR556s one for me and one for my son. Both functioned well except that my son's rear sight had to be adjusted so far right to center that the flip sight would no longer work. He is contacting Troy industries as this looks to be a problem with quality I have seen mentioned on the net. After sighting, iron sights, in I mounted a Battlezone scope and zeroed it in at 100yds. works great. My son put a holographic sight on and zeroed it and it worked fine.

I had never planned on owning an AR but due to the current CA. law makers trying to ban them thought it was time. Love Ruger's and have also recently purchased the new vaquero 357 and the SP101 22 LR. and my old 10/22 just keeps on keeping on.

I have recently retired and plan on doing a lot more shooting and hunting. Oh and maybe adding a few more Ruger's to the collection.

Up date: Just ordered the SR 762!!!
 
Took mine out for the first time yesterday. 100 rounds through it with no problems.
Put a Geissele SSA trigger in it, first stage a 2.5 lb take-up with a crisp 4lb. 11 oz. break, just as they claim on their site, like a carrot breaking.

Got it on paper @ 25 yards then zeroed @ 100 yards with a Burris 1x-4x 32MM optic. http://www.burrisoptics.com/skulltac.html (Not wild about the paint on the optic, glass is good.)
The center dot on the reticle is 4 MIA (I'm guessing here), but was able to keep 1 1/2" or less groups @ 100yrds on a "shoot n c" target by covering the center diamond.

Moved out to 200 yrd gong 1 ft dia. and hit consistently.
Moved to 300 yrds with the same results (18"x 30" gong). Negligible recoil, was able to see gong hits most of the time through the optic.
I used American Eagle 62 gr. fmj ball .556 ammo.
Clean up was a breeze, approx. 2 minutes for BCG, 10 minutes for barrel and gas piston/block, and about half of that time was carbon clean up on the piston, didn't have to scrape any either, just brushed.
Very pleased.
 
Follow up on the "Troy" sight problem. Well turns out they are Samson sights are now on the SR556. Ruger is going to replace the rear sight my Son is having the problem with. I just recently ordered 3 more 10 round magazines from ASM and just received them.
2 ea. 10 round magazines and a 1 ea. 12 round magazine marked as a 10 round magazine??? So I am contacting ASM to get corrected. Has anyone else seen this? I guess the 12 round magazine qualifies me for a felony in CA.!

ASM replaced the magazine turns out they sent me a 10 round 762 which was built with 556 parts.
 
My SR556 is a very fine weapon. One of the best piston ars on the market. Over on ar15 forum, it got rated higher than the Sig 516. Shoot them both. They are both great. I didnt have the money for both. Im a Sig fan as well but chose, as many others have, the sr556. Again, shoot one. You will love it.
