SR45 loading issues

Hello everyone. This is my first post here on the forum. I hope someone can give me some good advice on what to do. I recently purchased a Rugar SR45. Very nice gun on my first impression. I have about 30 rounds through the gun. Today while shooting, it appeared to mis-feed. The ammo went into the chamber but the slide did not go into the locked position allowing the next bullet to fire. Since then, loading other rounds into the magazine has also lead to the ammo not properly loading into the chamber. It appears that it is not aligning with the chamber. Taking the factor ammo and placing in the chamber still does not allow the slide to close properly to fire the gun. If a small amount of force is used to close the slide it will close and fire properly. I have been using 230 grain FMJ ammo. Any ideas on what is causing this. Could it be a cleaning issue? Any help would be appreciated.

It is a new firearm. Call Ruger customer service in Arizona. I am sure they will be happy to get it straightened out for you. If the firearm has to be returned their turnaround time right now is about a week (business days) from the day you ship it in.

Thanks one down two across, that seems to be a very logical first move. I wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking something I could do to remedy the situation before I resorted to that. I think I will call in the morning.

when I get a new weapon it gets cleaned and the feed ramp is polished. also I lightly polish the chamber. sometimes a particular type of ammo will not work as well as another. try a different manufacturer as well. also some pistols need a breakin period.

I just purchased one as well and took it out several weeks ago. Put 100 rounds through it an had only one Failure to Eject. This was using Winchester White Box ammo. I have since clean the everything. I haven't had a chance to go to the range, but will shortly and put another 150+ rounds through it.

I love the way it feels and shoots. Perfect for my giant hands.

Animal, yes it does feel awesome. I love the gun. Bigbore, I did clean it. After cleaning it does seem somewhat better. I think it will need a chance to break in. If after a few more rounds it doesn't seem to resolve, I will send back to Ruger. It seems like the bullet rides a little high in the magazine. Of course, it could be my imagination.

When I have feeding issues the first thing I check is the magazine. Even if it is happening with two different mags it can still be the mags. Figure out the simplest way to describe your problem and give Ruger a call and describe it to them. They should be able to point you in the right direction. It is no big deal to give them a call. That is what they are there for. If, in the remote chance you get someone who does not seem to be on the ball hang up wait a few minutes and call back at which point you should get a completely new person to speak with. I had to do this once. The person I was speaking with did not have a clue as to what I was talking about so I politely said thank you and goodbye and I called right back. The person I connected with the second time was very knowledgeable and remedied my problem post haste. I had issues with the first SR45 I owned. After a few trips back to Ruger they replaced it with a new one. Believe it or not that one also went back for FTE's. Since I got it back it has been working flawlessly. Their QA it seems could use some upgrading but their customer service will stick with you until you are satisfied. I could have traded it for another Ruger firearm of my choice but I stuck with the SR45 and I am glad I did. If you like the SR platform be patient and hang in there. Ruger will not hang you out to dry.

what type of ammo are u using.. had the same issue with american eagle and a few other types.( cheaper ammo). try sticking with the brand names , remington ,winchester .. useing better ammo and i bet the issue will be minimal..had failure to feed issue till about 250 rounds or so , about 600 rounds now with no issues. excellent gun for the price.. as far as mags ,they could be an issue also. had an ftf issue with my sr1911 . fixed it by going to kimber mags.. problem gone

Snowdevil, I was using American Eagle ammo. I cleaned the gun and polished the ramp and it has not jammed in the last 20 rounds I shot. Maybe the issue is resolved with a second cleaning and polishing. As a matter of fact, it has also shot re-loaded bullets without fail.
