Have an LCP II from Prescott built in 2017. Came with one mag and have purchased two more Ruger mags. Have two 6 round USA mags and one Italy.
I keep the mags loaded, what good are they with no bullets? Upon latest cleaning and inspection I noticed the slide will not lock open on an empty mag. Took the springs out and stretched them a bit and they worked as they should. Loaded them with 6, took the rounds out and problem came back. Upon examination you could see that the springs collapsed a little with just loading once. Called Ruger and, for the first time in years I got sketchy information. Usually they fix things up quick, fast, and in a hurry. The rep told me that it is not good to keep the magazines loaded because the springs will take a set. They did not offer to replace the springs, but as a courtesy they would replace the two purchased mags if I ship mine in on my dime. The magazine that came with the pistol would not be covered in any way.
My BS meter pegged with the spring set talk. I have Colt commercial Govt Model and WW2 USGI 1911 mags that have been fully loaded for years, with no "setting" of the springs. In my experience, springs that "set" are not springs!
Anyone else have magazine issues with their LCP/LCP II? Anyone try the Wolff "+5% XP" mag springs?
Thanks. Not meant to be a rant on Ruger, just a little back story to provide context.
