I just got my new SR40 last Friday and plan on going to visit the range tomorrow for the first time. This is my first experience with a semi-auto pistol. My question is this gun holds 15 +1. I put 15 rounds in the magazine. How do I get the +1 in the chamber so I am carrying 16. I know this might be a stupid question for some of you. Would I pull the slide back without the magazine being in and place a round in the barrel, close the slide, then put the mag in.
It not that it's that important to me to always carry one in the barrel but if I ever do want to carry with 16 I would like to know how.
Thanks.

the easiest way is to fill the mag... then chamber a round... then remove mag and top off... now u are good to go....

Hey there...the only way to "top off" a semi auto pistol correctly is as gulf described. Loading directly into the barrel and letting the slide slam shut is an easy way to damage your extractor. Always load the mag, chamber a round as normal, eject the mag, and load another. Enjoy your SR40!

Thanks for the reply. That was a big help for me. I knew there was something easy that I wasn't picking up on there. I've been handling guns all my life but never a semi-auto pistol. I will use that method today at the range.
