SR1911 Target Rear Sight Question

I have a 9mm 1911 Target and the rear sight doesn't click adjust for elevation, just windage. It adjusts for elevation but doesn't have click presets. Does anybody have one? Is yours like that? Doesn't make much sense if you can't track changes.

I would drop Ruger a line or give them a call to see what they say. Sorry, I don't have a target model that I can physically check.

From the manual:
Target Model RUGER® SR1911® pistols are equipped with fully adjustable target sights: Turning the top (elevation) sight adjustment screw clockwise lowers the impact of the shot. Turning the horizontal (windage) sight adjustment screw clockwise moves the impact of the shot to the right. (Nothing I could see in the manual that says anything about having "click" stops)

Thanks Ron. Yeah, it's all kind of vague. Hard to believe there aren't more folks on here that (actually any) that have a target model SR1911. 9mm,.45 or 10mm. I'll say this, the 9mm version is a very nice gun and shoots like a dream.

I have 3 SR1911's 2 full size and 1 Commander size, all in .45 but they have the Novak sights which I like and am happy with. I use one to demonstrate .45 caliber suppressors, one is outfitted with a barrel comp and red dot sight, and the Commander is just my general purpose .45 auto. Never really though about getting the target model, I don't really shoot competition type events any more but it might be a nice gun to add to the collection (like I need another, I have 7 .45's including a SR45 that does have target type green FO sights and I really like it).

Talked with Ruger Customer Service today. The Target sight is supposed to click which I had figured out last night by taking out the elevation screw just to have a look. It's very obvious that there are detents in the screw and sight base to interface with. Looks like my screw has some kind of washer on it that prevents the detents from coming in contact with the ones on the base. can't get it off and if I tried much harder I'd mess up something. Sent some pictures to Ruger and they'll see what they think.

They should be able to help you. My Kimber Stainless Target model has a sight just like that and it has detents, clicks, on both vertical and horizontal screws. Maybe the detent that should ride against those notches in the sight is missing or stuck.

Time for a little update. I spoke to Ruger Customer Service on July 17th and was asked to email pictures of the screw and the sight and I'd get a phone call back either that day or the next. I knew the phone call wouldn't happen but figured I'd give it time and see if anything happened. I was home this week so decide it was time to call back and give them another shot at it. Called and spoke to a nice girl and I explained everything and told her who I emailed the pictures to and she transferred me to him. I explained it again and he was apologetic and looked it all up, got my address and everything and said he's sending me a new rear sight. I'd have been happy with the elevation screw but I'll let him send the sight. I'll update in a few weeks if I do or don't get the sight. I assume I'll get it though. Still a gorgeous pistol.

Well, it's been over a month and no rear sight has shown up so I figured it was time to give them another call. Spoke to a nice lady today and evidently I haven't fallen through the cracks again but the sight is on backorder. She had no ETA on when it might be available. Back to waiting...

Well here we are another month in and still no rear sight. Rather disappointing performance.

Honestly the sight is fine, it's the adjustment screw. There's a collar on it that keeps the teeth from engaging the teeth on the sight so it just spins. I told them to just send me a screw but they decided the whole sight needs replaced.

I think the whole thing is comical at this point and while I'd like to enjoy the gun it's not like I don't have plenty more.

Tried getting that collar or whatever off the adjustment screw but the screw was either not fully machined or this collar is really well jammed on it. I lean towards not fully machined.

I was actually thinking on this today and wondering if maybe I should buy myself a nice upgraded rear sight. Problem being I have no idea what sight cut they use for these. Would anyone happen to know?

BoggusDeal-I'd be interested in what you might have.

Yeah, that’s normal for the SR1911 Target. The rear sight only has click adjustments for windage, elevation is smooth with a set screw. Not ideal for tracking changes, but once you get it zeroed it holds pretty well.

Well, Ruger Customer Service verified that the target rear sight is supposed to be click adjustable for both windage and elevation which is why they are sending (Albeit quite slooow) a n ew one.

Chief, sorry I just saw your reply! I thought I was staying on top of posts here. Let me get home later tonight and I’ll pull out what I have and PM you.

Got my new rear sight in the mail today! So over 4 months to get here. That’s quite a back order. Anyhow, I'm on the road and will be home for Thanksgiving so I'll switch it out and hope to be a happy camper.
