I have been looking to add a Ruger 1911 to my collection—specifically, an SR 1911 Target model. This model is offered in 3 different calibers. Why is the 10mm chambering the only one without an ambidextrous safety? The others have one.

Don’t know the answer to your question but I had a SR1911 Target in 9mm. It was a great gun with a beautiful trigger. They’re a little different in field stripping compared to a regular 1911 but basically an improvement on the original design. I sold it because there was something else that caught my eye. I recently bought a Springfield Armory 1911 in 9mm. It’s the traditional design but I had to do a little trigger tuning to get it to be as good as the SR1911. I’m done with striker fired pistols except for my concealed carry Sig.

Ruger just cheaped out on the 10mm Target 6750 to hit the $1,129 price point skipped the ambi safety single side only and G10 grips uses standard rubber that the 9mm #6736 and .45 ACP #6759 both get for $1,019. It's a weird cost cut since the 10mm's beefier recoil doesn't need less ambi, but probably supply chain or tooling BS during its 2020 launch. Still a tack driver, just swap the safety for $40 if you want ambi.

I have the target in 9mm and 10mm. I have wondered why the 10mm didn't have ambi. It doesn't matter to me as I am right handed. I absolutely love both of them. The 9mm really surprised me on how easy the slide was to manipulate, yet how the ejected brass lands 2' away. The first 3 mags had about 2 stovepipes per mag. The gun afterwards has not had a malfunction in 450 rounds. I have not cleaned it since the initial one when I bought it last month. The trigger on both are very crisp and clean. Everyone that has tried it asked if I had worked on it. I have not.
