SR1911 Checkering?

Hi I'm new to the forum and to a quick look but couldn't find anything on this topic. I have a full size SR1911 and have read all the pros and cons on cast frames and don't really care and I really like the Ruger 1911 and have had all the various manufactures over the years.
My questions are simple can the stainless cast frame have the front strap checkered? And if so any recommendations on who could do it without having to wait six months. Thanks for any input

if you can't find someone to do it you can buy a Wilson Combat frontstrap for it but let me warn you the finish doesn't really match up completely but it works.I bought mine at Midway.

There's a lot material on the front strap of my CMD. I assume the full size is the same. I don't think you'll have any issues with having checkering cut into it, assuming you have someone competent doing the job.

Thanks for the input I think I'm going to try Clark's Custom Guns they use a machine it does 20 same as the main spring housing , it looks pretty good and cost $125. You can check it out on their site.

A strip of skateboard tape will do the same thing, and you can put that $125 (or more likely $200+ after shipping both ways) toward reloading equipment or components ....

You'll now have $800-900 or so in a $600 gun. With the cost of mods like this added in, you easily could have bought a far better gun with the checkering already on it right out of the box ....

Having a 1911 with front strap checkering I think I would opt for the skateboard tape option if I did it again. While it certainly does increase your purchase (grip) on the gun I find that I have two main problems with it.

1) It is very aggressive. For a carry gun I would say that it is probably too aggressive. The skateboard tape will increase your grip without wearing a hole through your clothes....as quickly.
2) The valleys of the checkering tend to collect sweat, and even with a well protected and cleaned gun, i will start to develop rust in the checkering after a match on a hot day. Not all that applicable for a stainless gun.
