I'm a little concerned about the barrel on my new SR, the outside of the barrel seems 'unfinished" what i mean by this is its not mirror or even polished it still has tooling marks that if you use ur fingernail and run it lenghtwise up and down the barrel there are grooves that make the scratchin sound, the very end (muzzle) seems to be finished as these lines/grooves do not exist (about the last 1/2") of the barrel. The inside of the barrel has scratches in it as well. I'm not really happy wiht the barrel of this 1911. Anyone else have this issue?

nothing to be concerned about...this normal for stainless steel parts ,machined,cutting, tooling marks...as you note ,the front where the bushing rides will tend to smooth things out at that end,no need to the rest of the way...MAYBE could be a bit MORE polished where the rear ( hood) shows through the ejection port,but again, "cosmetic"...they are NOT going to spend a LOT of time "polishing out" stuff thatis out of sight, and inside or underneath...mass produced items

The bore in the barrel in my SR1911, which I purchased in May 2011, was as you described -- very obvious tool marks and not particularly smooth. The bores in my Beretta 92 FS and CZ 97B, both of which are stainless also, are like mirrors. So are the bores in my stainless New Vaquero and New Model Blackhawk. So, I don't think Ruger has trouble making smooth stainless barrels. I think it's not bothering with smooth stainless barrels in the SR1911.
I have just over 9,000 rounds through mine now. It is accurate. However, I shoot nothing but hard-cast 200 gr LSWCs. Leading was severe at first. It's not so bad now. I also shoot hard-cast lead bullets in the other handguns mentioned above and leading has not been a problem in any of these. So... draw you own conclusions. I've drawn mine.
On the other hand, this gun is so nice in general that I can live with the not-so-smooth bore and spend just a few extra minutes cleaning it after each session.

Mine had mfg. date April 2012. Barrel shiny no scratches in or out. Frame to slide fit has very slight movement, if loaded no movement. trigger excellent.

A little JB Borepaste and 5-10 minutes of scrubbing will clean it up nicely and it won't lead. Mine was nicely polished but I always run the JB through a new gun to clean up the stuff I can't see.

As I said, the gun shoots well. And now, after more than 9K rounds, leads less than it once did. But, I have nine other Ruger firearms and many from other manufacturers. None has a bore like this.

I just took my barrel to my smithy and he took it to his buffing wheel and smoothed it out and shined it up real purty. Didn't charge me a dime! 8) Of course I have a heck of a smithy. He appreciates the business I send his way.
