SR-9 Not Locking Open on Empty Mag

My SR-9 is not locking open on an empty magazine about 80% of the time. The problem is not confined to a single magazine, today at a clay pigeon shoot my son was using it and it appeared (not entirely sure) that it would do it with all three magazines. All three are 17 round Ruger magazines.

Any hints or suggestions as to what to look for to (hopefully) fix it without sending it back to Ruger?

Thanks in advance.

I'm siding with Cheesewhiz, did you use just one kind of ammo? Never had with mine, either.

Never had this problem either, ammo sounds probable, if it's not the next thing I'd look into is the Camblock. Mainly, make sure the lever has no issues moving like it needs regularly.

We went to a steel plate shoot tonight, again my son was shooting the SR-9, and the slide never once failed to lock back. Same three magazines as before, exact same reloaded ammunition as before. Weird.

He did have several FTE's out of 150-200 rounds fired, and another shooter pointed out that his empties weren't being tossed very far - something I had failed to notice before.

The pistol is fairly dirty; we figure it's been about 500 rounds since the last cleaning, but I'm thinking that it should still function well regardless.

Anyone see a common thread in this? I don't.....

I had similar problems with my XD. I bought the gun new and shot 200 rounds with no problems and then started to have problems with the slide not locking open. After I cleaned the gun for the first time I never had a problem again. Make sure there is oil on the rails. In addition, this can also be caused by limp-wristing. Usually won't be that big of an issue, but if the gun is dirty than limp-wristing can be the deciding factor.
